  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's a thought just crossed my mind, as it comes round from the sun they say it's supposed to light up the December skies. ?Could this be perceived as an omen, albeit a false one, and that is why Hanukkah has separated itself so far from Christmas this year as to fall on Thanksgiving?

I found this

5. If November 28 is the earliest possible Chanukah, does that mean all the other holidays in 2013 are the earliest they can be?
Yes! We’re also getting the earliest Purim (February 24), Pesach (March 26), Shavuot (May 15), Rosh Hashanah (September 5), and the other fall holidays.
However, because of the aforementioned calendar drift, this is true only locally, for the present couple of centuries. The earliest Rosh Hashanah used to be September 4 (which means Purim on February 23, and so on for the rest of the holidays), but that happened for the last time in 1766. The last September 5 Rosh Hashanah (until we loop all the way around, of course) will be in 2089; after that, the earliest will be September 6.
- See more at: Thanksgivukkah FAQ | Jewschool

Read the whole article it explains the moving of the calendar and how this happened.

PS, CNN is reporting on it in the next upcoming hour.

keep getting excited about every little comet and you'll keep getting disappointed . . .

Agreed. I look for every comet every year- I have a powerful telescope and I get to see them more often than others.

ISON is essentially a non-event for the southern hemisphere. I've already seen it and it was not that big a deal. It will be a big(er) deal for the Northern hemisphere but as this comet will never return I don't see it as a harbinger of doom.

I'm just not that desperate to have a validation of my religion.

It's brought nothing and it can't come back.
Why would you say that?

It seems that ISON is still heading directly for earth on a parabolic course per NASA's ISWA's model, and, if electric universe theories are correct, it might bring more than we are expecting:

It s shocked everyone, the comet that died and came back to life.

It has brought so much, and we will still go through it's debri trail on Jan 15th even if the comet no longer exists.

It said what it said, It did speak, but then with me, If I see 2 sparrows chasing a mocking bird, I'm going to say that it told me something.

These beatles aint in my pocket for no reason either.

Seriously, you like spreading panic, don't you? Those figures are too old. ISON has most likely not survived. It's remains may be still around, but it's not going to hit the earth. It's orbit was never going to intersect with the earth, and rumours about the earth going through its tail are also not likely. I wish it was likely, because the meteor shower would be awesome. But, it's not going to happen.

Even you naming it "I, Son" was rather bizzare. The term ISON has nothing to do with your religion. It's the name of the place that found it- International Scientific Optical Network. The comet's proper name is C/2012 S1. Now, as good as you are at finding connections to your religion, I doubt you will find a way to make C/2012 S1 apocalyptic. But, for fun, I'd like to see you have a try.

No ... please don't confuse my intent to "share data with mature, equal adults who possess critical thinking skills" with your fear of "spreading panic among children who need to be protected".

Too old? That was the latest forecast I've found from NASA's own website, dated from only Saturday.

That's awfully confident for you to say. Nobody knows for certain, besides Elohim, what will definitely happen - or not.

When did I say it was apocalyptic? As I've stated in the OP,

"Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:" Gen 1:14

"And I will shew wonders in the heaven ... " Joel 2:30

All things which happens in the heavens is of concern to me and my religion.

LOL....well, it looks awfully like fear to me...

Yes, too old. When an icy object is doing over a million miles an hour in a superheated state and it's two days on, it's old data. Not to mention you don't know how to interpret it. Remember space is three dimensional. Any interpretation of a "crash course" with earth on that data is a mistake. ISON will pass far over the top (e. to the north) of the earth.

When did I say it was apocalyptic? As I've stated in the OP,

"Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:" Gen 1:14

So you cite an apocalyptic verse and then say things like this:

the netz guy spake unto the forum thus said:
"I don't know ... but there seems to be too many unusual "coincidences" involved with this "comet".

and others chip in to the apocalyptic lingo with

the Lulav said:
Maybe whatever this comet brings we many not want it to revisit us again.

and expect it not to look like fear-mongering/religious doomsday thinking?

This is annoying to watch. Many comets visit us every year. Religious folks (being naturally superstitious) attach some kind of significance to it. Or at least they once did so commonly. Now, it's not so common- except among the fringes. Interesting, no?

Yes, my 'religion' leads me to believe that.

Oh, to be among the fringes, what a wonderful place to be! :)

Commandment of Yeshua

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

'A few' aka 'the fringe' ?
