  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

LOL....well, it looks awfully like fear to me...
What fear comes there to those who take refuge in Messiah? "He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in YHVH." Psa 112:7

Yes, too old. When an icy object is doing over a million miles an hour in a superheated state and it's two days on, it's old data. Not to mention you don't know how to interpret it. Remember space is three dimensional. Any interpretation of a "crash course" with earth on that data is a mistake. ISON will pass far over the top (e. to the north) of the earth.
Yes, I understand the limitations of a two-days old 2d plot representing 3/4d. I'm working with the data I do have, and neither did I write that it was to crash into the earth.

So you cite an apocalyptic verse and then say things like this: and others chip in to the apocalyptic lingo with and expect it not to look like fear-mongering/religious doomsday thinking? Religious folks (being naturally superstitious) attach some kind of significance to it. Or at least they once did so commonly. Now, it's not so common- except among the fringes. Interesting, no?
The verses I quoted (and which you copied) are not apocalyptic - they are simply stating that lights and wonders in the heavens are meant as signs for mankind - and I believe it. Those "signs" can be apocalyptic - or not.

And, yes, it's interesting that wonders in the heavens were virtually universally held to possess some sort of cosmic significance, yet in more modern times those of the scientific religion dismiss them as such. I prefer a straightforward interpretation of those Scriptural verses I've quoted, and thus, the ancient perspective.

This is annoying to watch. Many comets visit us every year.
The difference is, this "comet" has been called the comet of the century/millennium.

That by definition is apocalyptic.

It is a collectively busy year with events that make one go back to scripture and see if it fits. All is good and for the glory of God.

The question for me Vis is- what are people looking for? What in scripture do they want to "fit" with current events? And why? It's not like we have any control over the outcome and the record of history shows that people who look for things in their time to fit with apocalyptic scripture have always been wrong. That really tells me that there is something amiss in the process/paradigm.

You know, Noah must have run into similar situations, as did Moses when trying to reason with the Pharaoh about what was going to happen. Until it happens we are to be looking, watching, and searching the scriptures to see if it is so. It may be considered "crying wolf" but even in that story, the time will come when it is really going down.

I understand that Vis. But sometimes I think it's worrying about all the wrong things. It seems to me that there is so much to do in this world, for God, and we already know for sure that the last day is coming, so it's a bit of a waste of energy to be looking for signs in the heavens when one's neighbour is needy.

The thing with Noah and Moses etc...is that they did what they were asked to do by God during their time awaiting His judgment. I think we should do the same- live our faith and do some good for the benefit of the world. This is what we are commanded to do.

No ... please don't confuse my intent to "share data with mature, equal adults who possess critical thinking skills" with your fear of "spreading panic among children who need to be protected".

Too old? That was the latest forecast I've found from NASA's own website, dated from only Saturday.

That's awfully confident for you to say. Nobody knows for certain, besides Elohim, what will definitely happen - or not.

When did I say it was apocalyptic? As I've stated in the OP,

"Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:" Gen 1:14

"And I will shew wonders in the heaven ... " Joel 2:30

All things which happens in the heavens is of concern to me and my religion.

It's just that way, there has been so many prophets of doom that you can't talk about much without people thinking that you are another prophet of doom.:p

I see signs everywhere, but I don't take the signs to mean that I should forecast doom, or tell anyone anything.

 Exactly ...

... the presence of a sign doesn't have to mean that it's necessarily a sign pointing to "imminent doom"!

It is the preparedness that the Lord wants us to be, thus the call to be observant, aware, watchful, and prepared for things to come to pass as foretold.

The fatalist position presented is not one I am aware that the Lord wants us to have.

Jesus told us to watch so that we will know the times and the seasons, that we are to watch to actually know the hour and the day.

Jacob{not Israel} said that of Comets, he only knows one thing.

That if a comet breaks the bands of Orion, it means that God is coming to judge the world.

It is believed that Noah saw a comet break through the belt of Orion, and it's really amazing how these comets come out of Noah's ark, and then to transgress the belt. Of course this has happened many times, but it's interesting what was thought about comets.

I have to laugh when I think about Harold Camping and what he did.

His name being,'' Harold Camping'' is the strangest thing of all, and his second date setting happened to fall on the day that camping ends.

A storm came on his first set date, and this storm produced an F5 tornado that ripped a scar in the Earth that could be seen from space. This tornado came to the city of Joplin, but we can as well say,'' A windstorm came and destroyed the city of Job.'' Joplin is a name taken from Job, and to begin reading what happened in the book of Job is showing his children dying from a great windstorm.

On his first set date, an ancient volcano erupted which we could call,'' Bitter waters.''

The smoke from this volcano covered up Greenland, and when I see Greenland, I see a white ram. As if the white Ram disappeared.

A lot of other things happened that had to do with a man named,'' Harold Camping.''

His name may as well be,'' Herald the camping of Sukkot.''

That's what we are supposed to do in the last days, Herald the feast of Camping.

It's just too funny, and Daniel talks about a man who comes in the last days and sets a date for the end to come, but the end does not come, and it causes many people to lose faith,.

Update: Comet ISON dead at 4.5 billion years old

Updated 3:00 p.m. EST | NASA confirmed Tuesday that Comet ISON did not survive its journey around the sun, vaporized by solar radiation.
"Though the exact time of ISON's death is uncertain, it does appear to be no more," C. Alex Young of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center told AFP in an email, "All that is left is a cloud of debris without a nucleus."
In a memoriam on NASA's Comet ISON Observing Campaign website, Karl Battams writes that the celestial body was "born 4.5 billion BC, fragmented Nov. 28, 2013 (age 4.5 billion yrs old)."

Now what, after the obit has been written will happen if it should suddenly spring to life again?

ISON was a fun comet. I followed a bunch of comet feeds on Twitter and there is really no real mystery to ISON. For those who thought something was 'hiding' in it or that it was not made of ice and rock clearly didn't realize that 1000's of telescopes were trained on it everyday and the images those telescopes showed were very detailed and available to the public.

As for the debris trail, the earth plows through debris everyday. The earth is like a giant car going down the highway in the summer hitting bugs. As Contra said above it can make some excellent meteor showers though!

Adieu, Comet Ison; Hello Comet Lovejoy
BY BLAINE FRIEDLANDER
December 3 at 12:15 pm

Like the mythological Icarus, Comet ISON swung too close to the sun over our Thanksgiving holiday and has become cosmic rubble. Fortunately, a binocular object – albeit the dim Comet Lovejoy – rambles through our northern morning skies this week.
At best, it’s a fifth magnitude object, which means you cannot spy Comet Lovejoy (C/2013 R1) without binoculars or a small telescope. You may be able to find it around 5 – 5:30 a.m. – if you have a good view of north-northeast, says Geoff Chester of the U.S. Naval Observatory. For reference, Comet Lovejoy loiters between the Big Dipper (Ursa Major) and the Bootes constellations, but it’s moving quickly. By next week, it will be lower on the horizon, dimmer and very hard to find as it moves toward Hercules... Adieu, Comet Ison; Hello Comet Lovejoy

Lovejoy was better than ISON. I've seen both now. Now Lovejoy only visible in Northern Hemisphere. Only about mg.5 though.

Many are still saying that ISON is still alive and well ...

It's interesting to note that this comet was not named after its discoverers (as is common practice), but after the telescope network!?

Perhaps because the names of the two discoverers could possibly translate into "waters" and "wormwood", and the place where it was discovered translates into "bitter waters"?
