• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Whew, I'm back after a rather extended absence! Okay, okay, so it was only three days... but still. :p Felt like forever! :) I just got caught up on other boards and with other stuff online (spent much time speaking with Jarrod ^_^).

Mask - I don't really know what to do about raccoons... they scare me a bit too, especially because they're one of the prime carriers of rabies, at least around here. :-S Thankfully, we haven't had to deal with one - actually, haven't even seen one (alive that is, there are plenty of them as roadkill) - for a few years now.

Sounds like you did have a rather pleasant weekend! I'm glad that you got to spend some time with your hubby, that had to be lovely. :) And I hope that the move goes well! Sounds rather exciting, hehe.

What temperature is it there, Mask? and whereabouts in Canada do you live? It's been pretty cold here (I'm in Pennsylvania) but that just means 50s and 60s. So not that bad, but still rather unseasonable. Bleh. I like it when it's in the low 70s and sunny. Just the right temperature. :)

Jude - Hehe, your last exam is on my birthday! ^_^ I wish you luck on it.... perhaps I'll send some superhero birthday dust over to help you do superfantabulously. How does that sound? ;-)

And your degree sounds really cool. What was your favorite part of it? and where do you want to go with it after you graduate from uni?

Tracey - How are you doing?

Oh, and Mask, I have no idea if my goat is pregnant or not. Sarah just said that she looked well fed, but I'm not so sure about that....... but we'll see. Sarah should know what she's talking about, I guess. :) Although I've got to admit, it would have been madly exciting (and mysterious!!) if Cal were pregnant. :)

We leave on Thursday - early morning. We'll probably be driving for an 1+ hours then stop for breakfast somewhere along the way. I'm excited though..... I can't wait to see Jarrod. ;-) Just six days, God willing! Could y'all pray that this trip goes as planned and that nothing bad/unforeseen happens?

/me pours herself a mug of french vanilla coffee, and gets ready to start packing!

hi everyone,

Mask, good luck with the raccoon. I dont' really have any advice, we've had problems with raccoons living under our deck, and we're not the best at dealing with them. We had to call the critter people to come help us once.

Judy, good luck on your exam! That's exciting, how close you are to being done! Yes, we are a diverse group. I'm American but I lived in England for a year when I was 4. And I went back when I was 15. I really liked it over there, we made some good friends.

TLB, sorry about the rugby match. that's nice that it was an exciting game.

Dnhila, i liked your poem. I'm sorry about you losing a dear friend.

April, how was the poetry circle? And your busy weekend? I used to be in a writers' group. I really liked it.

I had a very busy weekend, I went to a Christian hard rock concert Friday night (but it was too hard of rock for me, I left after an hour. too much screaming!) Then Saturday I went to turn in some artwork for an art show and I worked. Then Sunday I helped in the nursery at church, taught Sunday School, went to Sunday School, played mini golf, got ice cream, and went to see a performance of Polynesian dancers by a Christian organization. they shared the message of Christ in between the dancing, and at the altar call lots of people went forward to give their life to Christ. it was exciting!! i loved the dancing too. and mini golf was fun, my friend who went with me has never been before because she's Taiwanese.

this week i'm working pretty many days and i'm making Chinese dumplings with my friend. I want to bring dumplings to my new Bible study leader because he's been so supportive of me lately. i just feel like i want to give him something, you know? is that weird? the Bible study has been such a blessing to my life the past few weeks and he's been so wonderful to me through emails and stuff, praying for me and giving me encouragement. well, that's it i guess. hope you all are well.

Good evening gals!

Well the moving of the new building did not get completed today! They couldn't get the big truck to back up all the way to unload the building...the truck kept spinning it's tires. They are supposed to come back tomorrow morning with a smaller trailer and load it on there and try again :sigh: ! I just wish it was done! It makes me nervous! They are touching the overhanging cable wires and pushing on my tree's branches, spinning up my yard, etc. Plus, now hubby has to miss work again tomorrow morning to help get this done. Keep praying that all goes well girls :prayer: !!!!

I live in Prince Edward Island, that's in eastern Canada, April. The temp is 3 today!! It is even snowing!!! Can you imagine that!! Snowing in May!! Well just little flakes, that are melting as the hit the ground but still snow  !

Woo hoo...6 days till you see Jarrod  !!! I'm so happy for you! I definitely will be praying for a safe and blessed trip for you all! We will miss you around here though  !

Wow Lynne, you sure have an interesting social life! That's awesome for you! I wish there were interesting/exciting Christian things to do around here!

Have a great evening!

Hi

April, welcome back, I missed you. I hope you're doing okay. I'll be praying that you have a safe trip. What happened about your sister going to your grandparents' house? Will you still be able to leave a day earlier to see Jarrod as planned? Did you meet Jarrod on CF?

Lynne - sounds like you had a lovely weekend. I enjoy christian rock music but I don't think I would have enjoyed the concert much either if there was lots of screaming. I don't think its weird to want to give your Bible Study leader something. The best way we can often express our thanks and appreciation is by giving something that we've spend time/money on.

Mask - I hope the building gets delivered okay. Is it a prefab (don't know what the canadian version is) type building - already made up building? I'd love to see snow! Do you live on an actual island or is it joined to Canada?

The temperatures here have been very low for the last couple of days but its supposed to warm up from tomorrow. There was even snow on the mountains which are about 2+ hours away from where I live. Its been 19/20 degrees celsius here, I don't know what the equivalent in fahrenheit here but as a comparison, 30 degrees is very warm - middle of summer temperatures and 25 degress is warm but not stinking hot, just nice.

Hi everyone  .

Well the building still isn't in place! They got it on the smaller trailer and pushed back to where we want it but they couldn't get the boom truck (crane) back far enough to lift the building off the trailer :sigh: ! Hubby has a friend that might be able to help, using his small boom truck tomorrow. It's not good when hubby has to keep taking time off from working. Hopefully the third time will get it done :prayer: .

Tracey, the building is a wooden building that someone built a few years ago. So, yes, it was already put together. We live on an actual island! We aren't attached to Canada by land. We used to have to take the ferry to go over to the mainland but a few years ago, the government build a very large bridge that now connects us (The Confederation Bridge). Snow is very beautiful, at Christmas time, but not in the spring ^_^ ! We get lots of snow here! It was nicer today, it actually go up to the low teens.

Have a good evening!

Hey, everyone. My two-week suspension is FINALLY over! Praise God! I missed you all SO much! I'm not feeling up to typing too much right now, but suffice to say that since I've been gone, I finished up with my classes for the semester, I got baptized, I had tons of fun at the retreat I went on, and I turned 20.

So, how are you all doing? Fill me in on what I missed!

Well, I felt like I am not welcomed. ^_^
Cause the only thing that I see in here is everyone's diary?????
It seems to be like no one is listening . As if talking while wearing a headphone and listening to music.
I really tried to help with some ideas but I found out that NO ONE IS LISENING or no one was free to help herself better than helping others.
Imagine the following conversation:
Lily: Hi everyone how are you?
Madlin: Well as I told you that I went to the beach and had a very terrible accident.
Lily: I said Hi
Rose: I can't believe it. What has happened in the beach?
Lily: Am I invisible????
So, what do you discover after reading this conversation.
That Lily is not welcomed and she is an outsider for the group that they ignored her to make her feel that she is not welcome and let her decide to leave by her own decision . I am not talking about everyone in here but some are using this way which led me to ask the question, WHY?
Why don't you learn how to listen to others ?
Why don't you welcome anyone?
Why don't you love yourselves and make others love you?
Why don't you get out of that small cocoon?
As long as the situation is like this in here? Then I guess I will find other new friends somewhere else?
So Long People:wave:

Mask ~ Thanks. I had a small celebration with my family yesterday. What we usually do in my family is that we do the whole "presents and cake" thing at night, right after dinner, and then for dinner, the birthday person gets to choose a restaurant to order take-out from and gets to order whatever they want from that restaurant (within reason, of course). I chose to order out from a local pizza place and I ordered a pesto-and-mushroom pizza, which was heavenly, and a box of onion rings, which were great as well. As for the cake, I had asked for a carrot cake, so that's what kind I got. Unfortunately, I was so full after dinner that I barely had room for any cake, lol. As for presents, I got a bulletin board (which I am going to put all of my retreat stuff on), two coffee mugs, and a $200 check from my parents. It was a pretty great day, especially since I got to see my best childhood friend earlier that morning. I hadn't talked with her in years, so we ended up chatting for two whole hours, which, if you know how quiet I can be, is amazing!

What about you? How has your life been? Any summer plans yet?

Dnhila ~ Sorry no one has been replying to you. Why haven't you been replying to anyone, though? That's a great way to make friends, is to ask questions and comment on people's posts.

Here's an example: So, how have you been doing today? Do you have any plans for this weekend?

Now you try and ask me some questions. I can't wait to get to know you better. :)

Hannah- sounds like a great birthday! wow, pesto and mushroom pizza... never had that. i like pesto but not mushrooms, so i'm not sure if it'd be for me, but it sounds interesting.

Dnhila- i responded to one of your posts, with all the questions. i'm sorry if you feel neglected, i'm sure it wasn't intentional, it's just hard to respond to everyone on here sometimes.

Mask - that must be cool to live on an island. :) though i'm not sure if i could handle all that cold weather and snow. i live in northern Ohio, near lake Erie, so we get our fair share of snow, but less than you do. i think we get plenty enough for me!

today has been interesting for me. ok, so this is maybe too personal for this thread, but i don't mind sharing, so if you want to listen, here goes. this afternoon i was struggling with temptation to fall into SI, and i resisted but just barely. i've been free of it for weeks now, it would be sad to have a relapse, but today was really hard. i'm not sure why, it just was. then tonight, during Bible study, i was struggling with spiritual warfare the whole time. like i hear this voice which mocks me and puts down the things that i am learning. i think the voice is demonic or something. it's really scary. i kept telling the voice to leave me but it wouldn't. so that was frustrating. but then afterwards my friend Brandon said he noticed i was quiet tonight and asked me if i was ok. it was just so nice that someone noticed. and i told him i was struggling with spiritual warfare, and he said, oh, yeah, that is a reality, just people don't realize it. i was so grateful for him saying that! and he said he would remember me in his discussions with God that week. and then after most everyone had left, i talked to my Bible study leader about it. he's just so nice and understanding! it's amazing. i feel so blessed. and he gives great advice about things. like i keep telling myself tonight, as i try not to fall into SI, what my Bible study leader said tonight - the things Satan tempts us with satisfy us in the short term, but the things God offers us satisfy us in the long term. although falling into SI will make me feel better for a minute, in the long term reading the Bible and drawing near to the Lord will ultimately satisfy me. and that's comforting to hear. :amen:

Never mind
My point is how can I ask about your own diaries?
I feel it is something personal.
And as long as I didn't know you well.
Any way, I am sure that love existed but the problem is the way of how to talk to people in here.
cause i am new in here and you are not. And I felt like their must be someone to take the first step and introduce me to others.
And I appreciate your replys but I feel like why to get into personal details. I have to know the person first then I can ask her about a diary that she wrote for her friends!!
It is good to know about others' life but it is better to ask about others who didn't mention anything about their own life.
I have put some posts, some has participated some has not. That's OK for me. I won't be upset because people have their freedom of choice. But my point is that I didn't feel welcome.
Anyway, thank you all for telling the new how to talk to the old members.

Hi everybody, not too much to report from my side.

Hannah -welcome back and Happy Belated Birthday:hug: . I'd like to hear more about the retreat when you feel up to sharing. That's great that you were baptisted, how did your family take it?

Lynne - that's great that you didn't SI  . Its sometimes really difficult to not listen to the devil, I hope that you don't get attacked too much.

Dnihila - welcome! Why don't you start by telling us about yourself? We don't mind if you reply to anything that we say even if you think its personal. This is an open forum for anybody to join, its not a club.

April - if you read this, we're missing you  . I hope you're having a great time and you must be looking forward to seeing Jarrod so much (sorry, can't remember if his name is spelt with one r or two).

Mask - I hope you get the building moved in, what will you be using it for? It must be so nice to live on an island, I would imagine the population is quite small. I've never even seen snow so I can't imagine what its like to get it so often. :p

I'm doing okay, I had a bad time on Wednesday when it felt like I was going to have a panic attack. I know what the trigger was but I'm on anxiety meds and this is the first time I've felt panicked while taking them so I don't know what's up with that. I have other medication to take when I get hyped up but its highly addictive so I can't take it on a regular basis. So far I haven't had to take it often at all so that's good.

Yesterday I wasn't on here because I spent the day at a group class at the university that I'm studying through for C++, it was definitely worth going too. I had a maths class in the evening and then I was watching TV so I didn't get a chance to come on here.

My CF character is dressed for the weather here, its been really cold here. I've had to wear fleece lined boots all week just to keep my feet warm. I usually only keep them for REALLY cold days. The air con can be quite cold at work.

I uploaded a new photo of my nephew as my profile pic. He's just 4 months old, he's starting to eat cereal now, only a little bit each day.
He seems to recognise me when he sees me, I thought he might be a bit young to be doing that but he is a very intelligent baby.

 Hi everyone! How are you all feeling today? Great I hope!

dnihila....you are not the only new person on here. Quite a few of us, just started on here, probably just a few weeks to a month ago. We welcome everyone here  ! Please don't get offended or hurt if everyone doesn't answer every post you make. Sometimes people haven't answered mine...that's o.k. Sometimes they just don't feel like talking or they don't know how to respond. I read everyone's post but I don't always reply to all of them. I've said hello to you before and I did read the poem you wrote :) . It was good.

If we post things on here about our lives, we wouldn't find it to personal if you asked us questions. We don't know each other either. If someone types something about how they are feeling or something important that is going on in their life, we just ask them something about that, or just comfort them with words of support. You don't have to know someone personally to ask how they are doing. If people post on here it is because they want someone to talk to, someone who understands what they might be going through, someone who won't judge them.

Anyway, please feel free to ask me questions, I will try my best to answer it, if I can. I would like to know more about who you are. Is it o.k to ask you questions about yourself or is that to personal for you? If so I will ask how many brother and sister do you have? I have 3 sisters and 8 brothers.

Good for you Lynne, for resisting the desire to SI!! Keep strong!

No long weekend for us jesusfreak. We had one last weekend, Victoria Day.

TLB..The building is still not moved in! We are now waiting to get someone to come and level out the ground a bit, before we unload it. That means more $$$! My hubby will use it to store his boat and do repairs etc. Later on we will probably build on to it a bit so he can also fit his truck in there to do repairs on it as well.

The population of the Island is 137,781. I don't know if that's small or not ;) ? It would take you about 3-4 hours to drive from tip to tip.

When do your classes end?

I did notice that you CF Character changed to a sweather :) . How cold is it there now?

Well I gotta go now. My son had the day off today so he's probably getting hungry for his lunch.

Have a blessed day!

TLB- i'm sorry to hear you had a hard time on wednesday. i've had panic attacks before, not fun. do you know what triggered it?

your nephew is adorable! my best friend's nephew is 7 months old, she just showed me pictures of him yesterday, he so cute as well. his hair is still growing in, it mostly grows in the middle of his head, it's like he has a mini-mohawk!

Mask- i hope you are well! why does your son have the day off?

April- i hope you're having a nice time on your trip!

Yesterday I met with my psychiatrist and convinced him to take me off one of my medications. So now i'll just be on one. I don't really like being on medication so I think this is good. but at the same time it makes me nervous, what if i get sick again? but my counselor thinks i will be ok, because i'm doing so well. i don't know.

today i have a counseling appointment and then i work for 5 hours and then i'm going bowling with my Bible study. should be a nice day. but i'm kind of sad because i just got the mail and i didn't get my artwork into this art show i entered in. it's just a local art show, i didn't think it would be that hard to get in. now i feel like i'm a really bad artist :(. i entered 3 pieces. oh, and my sister has been hard to get along with as usual. i'm so tired of trying to not upset her, it's like walking on eggshells all the time. frustrating!

Hi Mask, I hope you finally get the building moved in, it must be so frustrating to have had people come and try to get it there and then for different reasons it just doesn't happen.
You come from a huge family! I have one sister and that's enough. What was it like to have so many brothers and sisters?
That's quite a small island if it only takes that long to drive the length of it.

I'm studying through correspondence so I don't normally go to classes unless they are specially arranged. I think I have some coming up in July/August. I write exams in September/October and then register again in January for the next year. Our school and varsity terms here run from January/February to October/November.

Our minimum temperature tonight is 9 and our maximum is 25 which is warmer then it has been. 25 degrees will make it a nice warm day tomorrow, not hot. This is a cold spell that we've just had, we'll still have warm weather before winter really sets in. Although my city never really gets too cold.

Lynne - I'm sure you'll do fine without your meds. Sorry I can't offer more support, I'm not too sure what to say to be honest.
I'm sure you're a really good artist, I don't know what their reasons were for not accepting your artwork but don't let it upset you, there'll be more art shows.
Do you and your sister still live at home? I didn't always get on that well with my sister while she was living at home, but now we're really close.
Enjoy the bowling, I hope work went okay.

My anxiety was triggered, I think, because I was waiting for news from a friend about a court case that he had. He didn't do anything too bad, he breached a court interdict. Maybe subconsciously I was worried about it, but consciously I didn't feel worried about it until anxiety suddenly hit. My meds should have still prevented me from feeling anxious though.

Hello again . How's everyone doing tonight?

Lynne...my son had the day off because it was orientations day for next years grade 7 students, so he got to stay home to make room for them.
Don't worry yourself about being taken off those meds. If you can't cope without them, I'm sure he will put you back on them...but you will probably do great!
Have fun bowling and pray for wisdom from God in how to make things better between you and your sister  .

TLB...11 brothers and sisters is a lot but unfortunately, I did not get to grow up with all of them. We were put into foster care when I was only 2. I did get to live with two of my sisters though :) and another sister and one brother live reasonably close, so we saw each other more often too.
The rest, I only saw occasionally, through out my life . We are not close at all...more of aquaintances really. Sometimes life is not fair to children!
What are you studying to become?? What sort of job will you be looking for, once you finish? Do you still live at home?

I'm going to watch a movie with my son (and maybe hubby if he gets home early enough and if he can stay awake long enough to actually watch it ^_^ ) tonight. It's the Sandlot #3. Kinda a kids movie but that's o.k.

Have a nice evening everyone!
