I disagree to a certain degree. It depends on the disagreement. Don't get me wrong, I strongly oppose many catholic viewpoints, yet I'm good friends with several catholics.

But some issues I will not bend on, and refuse to have a close friendship with opposing views.

Drop It

Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam;
so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out.
Proverbs 17:14

Friends are wonderful, especially when you have similar opinions and values. When friends agree with everything you think, conversation is easy.

But what happens when a friend disagrees with you and firmly expresses her opinion? Do you find yourself quarreling with friends, causing rifts in your friendships? Is your opinion so important to you that it is worth these possibly damaging breaks in your friendships?

When you see a quarrel coming, do you stand your ground and ready yourself for the fight? Here's a different approach... drop it. Value the friendship more than your opinion. Show your friend how important she is to you.
Im sooo glad u posted this topic.

Im just getting things right with someone that I used to be best friends with. I let her faults and mistakes make me bitter, angry, and unforgiving towards her.

God is really helping me to let go of what she's done to me and forgive her no matter how hurt Ive been.

We should never let no one and nothing come between our friendships with one another. All of us are created differently. We have different opinions, outlooks on things, responses in different ways.

Ive never really had a problem with hearing other people's opinions, but Ive had problems with holding on to things, causing my relationship with my friends to be messed up.

I feel like this is a confirmation from God, letting me know that Im on the right track in life when it comes to dealing with my friendships. Love and friendship starts at home and in the church. I have to let go and let God lead me in my friendships with people and learn to stand strong on my grounds and still be accepting of others. We all have a right to feel what and how we feel about whatever it is.

Starting now, Ive let go of all that was keeping me seperate from my loved ones all around.

Thank God for His Love, that I may see what True Love and Friendship is all about.

Right now I really only have one best friend that I hang out with. (I have other friends, but don't really do much with them). Her and I have never argued over anything. We did have kind of a rough time about a year or so ago, but it had nothing to do with a disagreement, and it all got worked out.
I did lose one friend because of differences of opinions. This was a girl that I had been pen pals with for probably at least 12-13 years...she lived a few states away. Even though we never met in real life, we were close. When both of us got computers we got even closer because we could actually 'talk' online. We emailed and chatted each other everyday.
In 2001, I rededicated my life after being away from God for 2 years. At first I didn't tell her. We used to always chat about our frustrations with our husbands and other guys we thought were cute. God convicted me on this and I quit talking about it. I eventually told her, and she said she had started going back to church also.
At first, things were great, but then we started having differences over almost everything. She was Catholic and I'm not. She would talk about her beliefs and I would talk about mine. And she'd always get mad.
I look back on it now and realize that when I talked about mine, I did it in a way that said her beliefs were wrong. And I went about trying to show her how they were wrong.
Now she did have a belief I felt totally went against God (reincarnation) and when I brought that up is when she got irate with me and basically ended our friendship.
If I could do it over, I'd do it differently. I'd try to be more understanding of her beliefs and not try to prove how they were wrong. (even though I'd never be able to accept the reincarnation one).

A situation like the one you described is soo tough. I have a friend named Sheryl who I'm kind of going through the same thing with. She told me she is a Christian but later to find out that she bieleves that Jesus is a way; not the ONLY way. Which is totally wrong. I've tried so hard to explain it to her biblically but she won't listen so now I just love her and pray for her. She has really toned down our friendship and I haven't really spoken to her for a few weeks...even though I call I ALWAYS get her machine....hmmmmm.

I just realized this morning that yesterday was Thursday and I was supposed to post the topic!!! I totally spaced it!! (I even posted on here yesterday)
I'll blame my headache and not feeling well most of the day.
So should I go ahead and post Thursdays topic today, or just wait until next week?
I'm going to read it over and highlight areas to post. So if anyone is on this early, let me know what you think about going ahead and posting it.

I noticed that there wasn't a topic for the last couple of days so will go ahead and post one for today FRIDAY if you don't mind. She is probably busy busy busy as usual and I don't think she will be upset:

The New Religion

Today's Topic for Friday, Feb. 23rd, 2007

Beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses. —Luke 12:15
ODB_2007_02_sm.jpg

Driving through Ireland to a Bible conference, I saw a fascinating billboard. It was large and white with nothing on it but a woman’s red shoe and the bold caption: "Is Shopping The New Religion?"
The pursuit of possessions continues to be one of the most powerful motivations that people can experience. But can the accumulation of things bring true satisfaction?
In Luke 12:15, Jesus answered that question with a firm and uncompromising "No!" During a discussion on material wealth, He said, "Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses." Life must always be more than just the inventory of the things we own.
King Solomon also attempted to find satisfaction in the pursuit of things. He discovered it to be full of emptiness (Eccl. 2:1-17). If we have placed "the abundance of the things" we possess at the center of our lives, shopping may, in fact, have become a substitute for God—a new religion. But such endeavors will always result in emptiness.
David prayed, "You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing" (Ps. 145:16). Only God is able to bring real satisfaction to our lives. —Bill Crowder
O Lord, help us to be content
With all that we possess,
And may we show our gratitude
With heartfelt thankfulness. —Sper
You are rich when you are satisfied with what you have.

This is so true, sad to say. We live in a society where we want, want, want. This reminds me of my nephew (my husbands nephew actually). He's 5 and I babysat him last week. His father CANNOT come home from work everyday without a toy. Matthew (the nephew) will have a crying fit if he comes home empty handed. This has gotten way out of hand and I blame the parents. Anyway, all he talked about with me was how he wants this toy and that toy and I have that one and this one. All day long. He also walked around my home and told me all the toys he had that were like the ones we have. I sat him down and told him, "Matthew, what will happen once you get all the toys you want?" He said "I'll want more". I said "You will always want more but all the toys in the world won't make you happy but Jesus will" They are not Christians. I don't think he got it but he is just an example of how kids are being brought up today and it makes me very very sad.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I was reminded this weekend about how important it is to avoid distractions and be able to focus on God. I spent far too long watching TV on Saturday and have realised that I spend too much time on things like this. I need to clear out the junk and seek God. When we seek God with all our heart our plans become more in line with His will and we get our desires - our desires match God's desires. We also cease to be anxious because perfect love casts out fear and we are focusing on Him who loves perfectly.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share.

God bless you,

Maharg

Thankfulness & Praise

Colossians 2:6-7> So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Colossians 3:15> Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Colossians 4:2> Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

Hebrews 12:28> Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe...

Ephesians 1:3> Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

Hebrews 13:15> Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name.

James 5:13> Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.

Throughout the bible thankfulness and praise are a constant theme. Our Lord is so good, so just, so perfect that we should be constantly thanking and praising Him. Amen?

Let's spend today just thanking and praising our wonderful Creator. Thank Him for all the wonderful things He has blessed you with, thank Him for even the not so wonderful - because it's through our hardships that we come to know our Saviour more intimately.

Don't just post once today....come back again and again and just pour out praises to God. Let's exalt His name this morning!

Feel free to post songs, prayers, thoughts, reflections, blog entries, pictures. Anything and everything that bring glory to His beautiful name!

God Bless!

I'll start!!! :)
First I just want to thank God for my family and friends that I have.
And for keeping my friends safe on Saturday night when we were having horrible weather (ice and snow)--and one was travelling home from Indianapolis in the midst of it all.

Thank you, O Lord, for all Your gifts, for our lives, for our food and water, but most of all for Your greatest gift, our path to Salvation. Thank You for giving us this path and helping us to stay on it. Amen!

Thank you Lord for my family and friends - and for brining me and my husband together. Thank you for watching over us in times of trouble and illness and also in times of joy. Thank you for giving the doctors the knowledge to diagnose my grandma's cancer and for the treatment that she will soon be receiving. Thank you for CF and all the new friends that I have made here. Thank you, Lord! Amen!

What an awesome idea!

Today I am thankful for: my sons; my daughter in law and the baby; my parents and siblings; and friendships; i am thankful to be healthy and able to work; for having enough to pay my bills and food to eat, a car (or two) to drive;

i'm thankful for and appreciative of spring that is up and coming - the blooms and blossoms that come with it.

i'm thankful for what God has taken me to and through; for His tender mercies, forgiveness, grace, love and most of all for loving us enough to give us sweet salvation in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Without Whom I would be lost.

I'm thankful for my husband and my friends, and for the sorts of tears that are healing, and for the Lord just being with me. I am very upset at the moment, but despite that I feel a sense of peace. I think it is because He is with me. I am crying but somehow comforted and I thank the Lord that He loves me despite all my mistakes - and even making the same mistakes over and over. And I thank the Lord that He loves me and provides for me even when I am ungrateful and cannot see what He is doing. And I thank Him that He never gives up on me and always wants the best for me.
