The argument is in the efficacy of guns to kill. Reporting red herring because "anything can kill" doesn't address the argument at all.

Yeah, we use a lot of things that have the potential to accidentally kill. Those old split rims on trucks sometimes killed. My neighbor's son was killed by a piece of machinery on the back of his tractor. That's why you need to be careful when using potentially deadly tools, of which guns are one.

Apparently, a local police officer climbed up to the roof and saw Crooks just before he started shooting. From the Sheriff's comments, I take it the officer could not engage given his position on a ladder (?). .....

That Leo would probably have been shot dead if he was spied on an elevated position shooting the real shooter.

Only in an abstract way. That is, it is not a common problem. The last time someone shot a president was Reagan. Most of the posters here were not even alive then. "Gun violence in America" is a more broad subject.

We don't have any kind of epidemic of people trying to shoot presidents.

Yeah, I was walking thru the school parking lot after baseball practice when I heard President Reagan was shot. Those life events are imprinted in our memories quite vividly.

So in an abstract way somehow our gun problems are not really an issue in which we should concern ourselves? Mr Camperatore's life was just as valuable as a potential president's life in some eyes.

This is totally true. WAY too many people are underqualified for operating motor vehicles. And not just in terms of skill, but also -even mainly - judgment.

He was probably not able to draw his firearm because he was on a ladder and was at a disadvantage with the shooter being armed with a rifle and he with a handgun.

Yep. Yet we still drive them because it's worth the risk. My wife and I lost our 41 year old son in an auto accident two years ago. Left his two children in early teens.

Its worth the risk because we've built a world that requires driving for normal living. Its not like God made us this shape in order to fit into cars.

What do you know of the Secret Service’s capacity to secure private facilities in the vicinity of the event? Do you know anything at all for certain or are you just assuming?

If a protected individual goes into a restaurant or some other business. While they are there the secret service is in charge of that building. What they say goes. Same for a building that may be a threat to the protectee.

Shooter was spotted and photographed by law enforcement almost 30 min before shooting. Was called in and not followed up on. There is also video by attendees showing shooter crawling around on roof also reported to law enforcement and was not followed up on. Shooter was on the building used as a staging area for law enforcement. This was an indefensible failure and smells to high heaven ,

This investigation should be taken from the crooked FBI. They will never give us the truth. To all of those who are worried about a threat to democracy you are witnessing it in living color.
