• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

yeah, my lips are usually chapped and dry during cold weather..I think it's because it's cold/transitioning to winter that it happens to most of us. The following is a copy/paste of natural cold sore remedies:

  • Lip balms with at least 1 percent lemon balm
  • Drinking lemon tea and using lemon tea compresses
  • Peppermint, mint, and witch hazel oil
  • Aloe vera gel can soothe inflamed sores while providing crucial moisture
  • Licorice root contains glycyrrhizic acid, considered to be an antiviral
  • Cornstarch paste, made of equal parts starch and water
But as for chapped lips, I just kind of..leave it as is. My lips are super sensitive to any lip balm- even vaseline.

I've found I get cold sores when I'm very stressed out and not taking good care of myself in general. So getting enough sleep, eating well, and drinking lots of water help. I recommend lots of vitamin C as well to boost immunity.

Cold sores or fever blisters are caused by a virus called Herpes Simplex. So what you need to ask yourself is what did god create that kills viruses? DMSO and hydrogen peroxide are two very powerful anti virals. Used topically they will knock out a cold sore in a few days. Only buy high grade/pharmaceutical grade DMSO and you need to dilute it with distilled water to a mixture of 70% DMSO and 30% distilled water. This can be used topically for cold sores, joint pain etc. Make sure the area to be applied is clean and free of oils, lotions, soaps, etc. It is a very strong transdermal and gets down to the cellular level so it will take with it what ever it comes in contact with. Its truly an amazing substance. I put it on fresh skin cuts, burns like crazy on an open wound but I have had deep cuts heal up in as fast as 24 hours! The hydrogen peroxide is amazing as well. Hundreds of natural cures with it. Food grade 35% is best but MUST be diluted down to 3%. That's one part 35%HP to 11 parts distilled water. Apply to the cold sore with a cotton ball.

I’ve been having cold sores for years and doing all sorts of tactics to prevent them!

Lysine is a great way to prevent them.

I came across a daily multi vit in the US which has been great, I take it daily and it has prevented any serious outbreaks - when I do get run down and if I get an outbreak it only lasts one day and hardly visible.

Think you can only get them in US but have really helped me, they are called Lipso Facto. You can order online www.ohwohealth.com - I just subscribe and get a new one sent each month.

Hope it helps!

Get a prescription for valacyclovir (Valtrex) or famcyclovir. I suffered with cold sores my whole life and then got a prescription about 5 years ago and it works great. I only take it episodically when I get one, not daily.

Works amazing! Better than a topical creme because it's a pill you take and it works internally. In my experience, the effectiveness of herbal remedies isn't sufficient.

I used to go into a depression whenever I had an outbreak, and now it's changed my life so that I don't worry about it any more.
