  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a boat snob, a beer snob, a boot snob, a gun snob, a book snob and a manual tranmission snob. I am not a coffee snob. I like Torke' because it's made within a few hundred miles of my home, but if it's hot and black I'll take it. No instant and no decaf, obviously.

Ahhhh, but it's not snobbery. It's appreciation of the beautiful combination of God's creation and human ingenuity. :) Earthy... Warm... Rejuvinating... Perfect compliment to a cool morning by a fire or a late night with friends (whiskey works for either, as well).

They sell Torke' nationally? I buy coffee from the little shop just down the road who bought it from a fair trade org. Just some no name beans from Guatemala this go around.

Chai is good, too. Our Indian neighbors taught us how to make it and we often do. How do you make yours?
I've never made it. I usually grab some when I'm out.

I'd love to learn how to make it though.

Wanna share? :p

I don't know how far Torke' goes. It's commonly found in diners and workplace coffee makers around here...not exactly highbrow stuff. Cheaper than fancy coffee snob brands like Folgers and Maxwell House at the grocery store ;)

Sure! :) There are several ways to make it, and it varies by region, so feel free to vary according to taste.

Start with a 2/3 milk, 1/3 water or 1/2 and 1/2 ratio and a couple of pinches of loose leaf tea per serving. Our neighbor said they used Brooke Bond tea, and ours has lasted us a while.

Put the milk, water, and tea in a pot and heat, making sure not to scorch the milk. As the milk is heating, add sugar, whole (or ground) cloves, cardamom, freshly grated or diced ginger, allspice, cinnamon, vanilla, black pepper, etc. to taste. We usually just use sugar, cardamom, ginger, pepper, and cloves, it's really up to you. After it's heated and brewed to taste, pour it through a fine strainer into a cup and enjoy. :)

Lately we've found that we like to heat everything separately from the tea and pour it over the tea in a separate diffuser within the cup and let it sit for a while that way. It tastes more full and combined to me that way.

Day to day we drink Community Coffee because it's fairly local to here, and is good quality.

As for workplace coffee, it like a popcorn machine, is best when rarely cleaned and even then only rinsed out with water. :-D

This is one reason I don't drink coffee at work, oil from the coffee builds up in coffee makes and makes it taste bitter, only chemical cleaners specific for coffee machine are able to break it down. I am a total clean coffee maker snob, it dosen't matter how good the coffee is if the coffee maker needs cleaned.

My every day coffee is the ubiquitous Dunkin Donuts that exists every 100 ft or so. I hate Star Bucs. For snooty coffee I like Costa Rican or Guatemalan.

I like the pure brown sugar and a Little cream. But for the Dunkies, it is cream two sugars. In Boston you say either larger or medium regular. Regular means cream and sugar, don't pronounce the R, it doesn't exists. Lahge Regula !

For the best tasting regular coffee, for me, surprisingly it comes down to Dunkin Donuts and McDonald's.

Starbucks is too preppy for me...and yeah, it's expensive. But I still keep coming back for their Vanilla Bean Frappuccinos and Caramel Macchiatos once in a blue moon.

Master blend by Maxwell House with a teaspoon of sugar and some milk. I like it simple and cheap. Drinking some right now.

I'm more of a tea girl myself. I don't care for green or white tea. I like the old-school black stuff.

I also recently discovered I prefer Lipton to most other brands.

(spectacularly good 'ordinary' tea)
