  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

  • The rule regarding AI content has been updated. The rule now rules as follows:

Be sure to credit AI when copying and pasting AI sources. Link to the site of the AI search, just like linking to an article.

Why is it that this issue has become so politicized? Why are conservatives so upset by these scientific results, to the point of ignoring any information that supports global warming?

Ummmm, perhaps it has something to do with the fossil fuel industry contribuiting heavily to their re-election campaigns.

Thank you AV, that is quite correct. If I may add, climate is defined as a trend of 30 years or greater.
See? I read your posts -- and learn -- ;)

Sounds like something the "History" Channel would show. Far as I'm aware nothing major will happen in 2012 regarding solar activity.

well it wasn't on the History channel, it was on the HOPE channel.
what the research article from NASA Langly was saying is that solar activity (on the Sun) goes in 6 year increments between the highs and the lows.
The next peak for solar activity is expected to be in 2012. and if we get a solar flare that gets thru the atmosphere, it could take out all common communication activity for a 3 month period. it has happened before in history, back in the 1800's when telegraph communication was out for a period of 6 weeks before it could be restored.

the technology is greater and faster today, but it is also more widespread and interconnected. So if a hit of the same magnitude came today as in the 1800's, it would affect more people, and the depth of the affect would be more widespread; disableing much more than the hit did then.

They don't have the link up yet for the 12/4/2011 show, but it should be up in a few days.

Solar activity is predicted (and I use that word very loosely) to peak around 2013/2014 not 2012, the current cycle has been very tame.

I'll watch out for it to surface on the website.

Is this just what you believe or do you have any evidence of how inaccurate 10 day weather forecast are?

How accurate are the weather forecasts?

because I don’t know of any other field in which such incompetence is tolerated.

Depends how you define accuracy. Like I said, there's no functional reason that the meteorologist has to get the high and low dead on which is what your source implies is necessary. If he's within two or three degrees that's all the public needs.

As I said, they've gotten quite good at predicting general trends such as the arrival of fronts, precipitation patterns, etc.
