We are going to do something like that this year, because I am planning on saving all of her child support checks for the summer to use for her school clothes. That will give her right at $1000 to get everything she needs for school, new clothes, supplies, fees, etc.I dunno if this would work given your daughter is only 10 but when I was younger my parents would give my brother and I a fixed amount of money to do our clothes shopping, usually in the fall and then again in the spring and let us pick our own stuff. It was a good way to learn just how expensive things are and to appreciate sales moreAnd to prioritize. I used to be willing to spend a lot on jeans because I found they actually lasted longer than the cheap ones but I'd buy less expensive shirts so I could have more. From my parents point of view I think they spent the same amount of money as if they "took us shopping", but it taught my brother and I the value of money a bit more.
I know she wants a pair of custom Nike's that is going to be $150.00 of her money, then her supplies and school fees will be around $150.00 so that leaves her with $700.00 to get everything else she will need.
I know she doesn't need bras or underwear. We both have at least 30 of each. She likes the pink bras from VS but I can't justify replacing what she has already until she has out grown them.
Her school shirts this year have to monogrammed it is required. I know that is like $7.00 a shirt and I always want her to have at least 6 full school uniforms.
I have found that for uniforms Gap actually has the best and they are reasonable. $12.50 if you order more than one. So that leaves her plenty money to get what she needs in pants. Actually we shouldn't even have to spend all of what she has left and she can save it for something else she needs for the school year.
