Due to the recent controversy regarding the promotion of Satanism and the debate over certain symbols that some members consider are Satanic, this clarification announcement has been made.

Essentially, the 5 Christian Principles of Foru.ms remains and are not changed.

However, the 3rd principle has been clarified from this:
3. "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God. (Respect the name of God and Jesus - no anti-Christ messages or images)

to this:

Site-wide rules should be drafted with the above Principle in mind.

In relation to what "exclusively Satanic symbols" mean, this does not mean an upside down star, because the upside down star was used for the Seal of Constantine, and the symbol for the city of Jerusalem, but an upside star with a goat's head in the middle would be considered an exclusively Satanic symbol. The Principle is not meant to be a rule but to guide rule-making, so it will not go into detail to be too inclusive or exclusive.

Hope this clarifies matters in relation to this issue.

In a debate, when you are defending Satanism you are effectively promoting it, so in that context, although it is no ideal, it is acceptable to prevent stifling debate.

Satanism or the promotion thereof shouldn't be acceptable in any situation, especially on a supposedly christian-based website. Come on Erwin, you can do better than this.

By allowing this he is allowing a place to debate against it . If this was not allowed no one would be able to speak of it and in turn advise against it. Sure it allows for discussion but even the discussion is not allowed to promote it in any way.

It is always good to know where the evil thing is restrained or limited to so we as Christians can keep it clearly in check. He is not allowing for the promotion of anything evil with this clarification . He is in fact locking the beast down ,otherwise it could have had a free run of this place and that would have been a real atrocity...

So, its not ok for someone to spread misinformation about christianity without that misinformation being corrected?

I think what erwins trying to say is context counts. eg if a person posts a self of baphomet, it would be a rule violation. However if a person posts a random pentegram it would be ok, depending on context

Correct. Promotion of satanism is not allowed but when a satanist is debating a Christian, at some point he is going to say something that some will view as "promotion" - if we disallow that, then that debate is stifled. Again, it has to be within context.

Understood. There is a big difference between a statement and a promotion and that is where the staff needs to be careful to determine where the promotion begins and the the discussion ends. Hey lets face it context is what it is all about. Staff needs to be cautious not to stifle but also not to allow promotion. I agree...

Like quoting a prayer a certain amount of times with the hopes that God (god) will answer if it is quoted just right with the right amount of faith and involve since some people believe they are "little gods" and can quote scripture laws and tell God what to do. Where do you draw the line on stuff that seemingly sound christian but can turn deadly in it's beliefs like People can try to atone for their sin by cutting when their church don't believe in grace is enough.

Well if you consider Satan your enemy it's not hard to figure out really. Inaccurate and erroneous information is like having recon tell you the battle is 20 miles Southwest when in reality it's 40 miles due East-Northeast. What is your intent/feelings regarding discussions of varioius aspects of the occult (not just satanism) that may come up that may be more of an educational (as opposed to persuasive) nature.

For instance, there are many myths propagated about the occult by (sometimes) well-meaning Christians. If someone who has come out of the occult speaks up to say, "your info is wrong... it is really like this instead", would that be considered acceptable?

And is this something that is left to the judgement call of the mods of a particular forum?

I ask this since I'm usually the one called in for a "pastoral opinion"...
