  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

DS is because DH is, and it is cleaner.

My neighbor recently discovered her 3 yr old bleeding from his penis, after investigating she realized that he was getting caught in the netting of his swim trunks. YIKES!
Thankfully 14 years ago C was done in the hospital and insurance paid for it. Now I understand it has to be done by a pediatrician as outpatient surgery several days after birth and insurance will not pay.
We'd still have it done but I'm glad we don't have to.

Maybe it depends on the doctor or state, but my SIL just gave birth to their son a couple weeks ago, and he was circumsized in the hospital the day before she was discharged, so he was 2 days old~

No. We aren't Jewish.

Also, circumcision is the only medically unnessecary surgery that can be performed WITHOUT the patient's consent. If my son wants to get it done when he's 18, he can have it done, but I will not make that decision for him anymore than I will pierce his ears or get him a tattoo without his consent.

Agreed, plus it's just not the done thing round these here parts unless there's a medical reason.

My 8 year old has that problem and he is circ'd. The simple solution- remove the netting from the suits. No surgery needed!

I have one son who is circumsized and onw who is not. The first one I didn't even know it was an option not to do it...and with our youngest I just thought it was unneccesary- I can't imagine it being that big of a deal to teach him how to clean his penis as a part of teaching him how to bathe himself.

I dunno- my children don't spend much time looking at their dad's penis so differences in appearance weren't a big consideration for us.

Yeah, this is our view too. No one ever suggests trimming down a girl's labia so it's easier for her to clean.

Also, the only story I've ever heard about a boy noticing he was different from his dad, his dad just explained why. Needless to say for a young boy, he was GLAD to hear he hadn't been cut and thanked his dad for not letting it happen to him.

No way. We didn't circumcise Gracie either BTW. DH is intact and does not see any reason why circumcision would be better. I feel it is an old covenant mandate, and there is no religious reason for the proceedure. I was aware that the foreskin of an infant and small child is nonretractable for a reason and left it be. Easy as pie cleaning and no wound care were pros on our list. In 7 1/2 years Atticus has had no problems with having a foreskin. If he wants it done it will be his decision as an adult.

I voted No as i don't see the need for it.

I've read alot of arguments for and against and feel that there is no need for it. (from a medical point of view)

I also don't have any strong religious views on the subject so again I wouldn't do it for those reasons either.
