  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm curious to see how many parents do/don't circumcise-and the reasons why. If you'd like to share the reason(s) behind your decision, please do, but remember this is not a debate forum, so please don't attack anyone's decision. :)

Yes, we circ'd all 5 of our boys. We figured that if it was an important enough for G-d to make it a sign of His covenant with Abraham, then it was important enough for us.

Also, neither my Dad or my DH were circ'd at birth and had problems. My Dad wasn't circ'd until a year after he married my Mom. DH ended up getting circ'd at 8 yrs old and he remembers it well. He didn't want any of the boys to have to go through what he did, understandably. So even if we hadn't had our strong 'religious' reasons, we would have done it anyway.

No. After researching we did not feel that the potential health benefits outweighed the risk of the surgery. After researching scripture we felt it was no longer required. My hubby also didn't feel the need to have his son "look" like him. The men on my side of the family also have not been circumcised and have been just fine. In the end we felt that there needed to be much more compelling evidence to have a piece of our sons body surgically removed without his consent so in the end we decided not to do it. Our son is now 9 months old, intact, and doing just fine

No. We aren't Jewish.

Also, circumcision is the only medically unnessecary surgery that can be performed WITHOUT the patient's consent. If my son wants to get it done when he's 18, he can have it done, but I will not make that decision for him anymore than I will pierce his ears or get him a tattoo without his consent.

I voted other because I couldn't post for religious AND health reasons. Also the men in both our families are all circumcised & that would have been reason enough for me. Our phsycian's husband had been an army dr & strongly advised it but we didn't need much convincing. Our sons are all happy with the decision & as they are over 18 I guess we made a good decision on their behalf.

yes! all 3 of my boys are circumcised. I think most american boys are circumcised. But that's not why we did it. My DH was, and he didn't want his boys to think they were "different" from him in that area. ;) And I think it would hurt more if they were older when it was done. I don't think a baby will remember the pain. The obstetrician who did the surgery gave them a local b4hand.

I am a very firm believer in genital integrity.
My older two boys are circ'd due to the fact that I had no say in it, due to adoption.

The baby is not.

No and no future boys of ours will be either.

We do not believe the benefits are great enough to deem it needed. He's more than welcome to choose to have it done when he's 18.
