Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26

Hello Christians: do you have a fear of death? If not, why do you suppose you don't have a fear of death?

Hi Talquin, basically, I don't fear what will happen to me in the afterlife for many of the same reasons I became a Christian to begin with, the biggest being that I trust God with my life (which certainly includes my future).

I trust what He says, that He will keep His word/promises to us, and that He is able to do so.

Yours and His,
David

I'm not sure if I could class myself as a Christian as my faith is very weak. But yes, I do have a fear of death, because I still do not know or understand what happens when we die. I am afraid that when we die, we just cease to exist, which scares me. I am also afraid that I will die before I get to do certain things here on Earth. Or, that my loved ones will die :( The fear for me is very strong.

Hi Naboo, I'm not sure if this will be helpful to you or not, but here is one of the Lord's promises to Christians concerning the afterlife.

When you consider what He wrote, just remember that He loves you so much that He decided to come here and die for you rather than live without you .. :)

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also."
John 14:1-3

It sure seems like the Lord wants you to be wherever 'He' is, doesn't it .. :amen: That is good news ..

Yours and His,
David

My question doesn't pertain to just what happens after you die, but the occurrence of dying as well. Do you not have a fear of that? If so, why not?

*As someone who's faced possibilities of death many times in life, there's
not an obsessive fear of death, I do wonder about it from time to time.
My first close call was when my elder brother came within a hair of shooting
me when I was a child, he'd been running with a gun, tripped and fired the
weapon in my direction, the bullet whizzed by my head-- I'm not sure if
it was the impact of the gun firing or sheer fear that caused me to collapse
onto the floor. I know my brother become extremely frantic and for a few
moments he'd thought I'd been hit by the bullet.

More recently I've had to be taken to the hospital due to stress, chest pains
and elevated blood pressure, they hooked me to an EKG machine and monitored
me for several hours... this has happened to me a couple of times over the years.

Was I afraid? yes but I turned to the Lord and ask Him to comfort me... sometimes
I've even prayed and prepared to die (as well as one can under the circumstances.)
I'm still here and will remain until the Lord calls me home.
My trust/faith is in the Lord, His Word and my long faith walk with the Lord over
the years, He has proven to be faithful to His Word.

I live daily with varying degrees of pain due to my injured back, I spent two decades
working as a caregiver, so my back is shot... if you are wondering about my age,
I'm 50.

What is the "this" to which you refer (I'm afraid I'm not quite following you)?

Thanks!

Hi again Talquin, I am sure that when my time comes, I will be afraid of the "process" of dying (if I am aware enough to think about it, that is). After 14 continuous years of both the young and the old (mostly the old) in my family dying, I have seen it all and none of it is very nice.

But it's not something that I actively fear, if that's what you mean. If I worry about anything now, it's about what will happen to those I leave behind.

Yours and His,
David

No. Death is inevitable so we just have to accept it. If I know that something will happen then it is difficult for me to be afraid of it. The only thing I can really fear is the unexpected but if I am given time to analyze the possible outcomes then it is not scary. The act of dying might be scary if it is unexpected but the concept of death isn't.
