  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you hold that the NT was written by the Spirit, then the NT referring to Paul's writings as Scripture is not the imagination of men.

I believe the the writings were inspired by the Spirit, not that the Spirit wrote them. One can only hear the Spirit, not read the Spirit! The NT never refers to Paul's as Scripture. Peter wrote Paul wrote according to his wisdom

1 Timothy 5:18 For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.”

Not muzzling an ox refers to Deuteronomy 25:4, but the laborer deserves his wages comes from Luke 10:7, so his gospel was quickly regarded as Scripture.

I think you are equating something unbalanced. Let us not set our standard meant for animals. Ox may be allowed to eat to its liking. But Jesus clearly says gospel laborer should accept what is given, not munch on all that is available.

Luke 10:7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

2 Peter 3:15-16 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

It doesn't say that Paul wrote according to his wisdom, but according to the wisdom that God gave him, which is the equivalent of saying that his writings were inspired by the Spirit.

I think you missed the point. The passage in Timothy refers to both quotes as Scripture, with first one quoted from Deuteronomy, and the second one quoted from Luke.

It is clear that Peter never claimed Paul wrote inspired by the Holy Spirit. Poor Paul was troubled by the messenger of Satan. The wisdom in Paul's writings has to be verified with other sources. It is not one way track with self-claims.

Canon is man-made. What is applicable to animals cannot be applied to men.

So you follow the Law. How's that working for you? Does your righteousness exceed that of the Pharisees?

I try to follow the spirit of the Law. I strive to become perfect. My righteousness will be measured by God, not based on our claims.
Matthew 5
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

This is utter nonsense. By undermining Paul you are undermining the New Testament. So this could be a message from Satan.

Peter said that they twist Paul's words as they do other Scripture, which implies Paul's words were Scripture, and everything that comes with that. It says that the wisdom came from God, so why do you attribute it as coming from a messenger of Satan? Paul's writings are verified by other sources.

Canon is man-made. What is applicable to animals cannot be applied to men.

Again, you're missing the point. I'm not making a point about how to treat oxen or workers, but rather my point is that a quote from Luke is referred to as Scripture.

Logic can be used to prove either way. Scripture ended with the OT. It is the Holy Spirit now and writings. Jesus warned of false prophets, and did not indicate new writings to tell about Him. The Holy Spirit will remind of Jesus' preaching not suppositions and self-claims of Paul.

Paul doesnt contradict Jesus. Also Jesus entrusted revelation to John, which is not OT but is STILL SCRIPTURE. Paul was also given abundance of revelation but told not to write his one. Instead he was called to be apostle to the gentiles, and thats why so many of his letters to the churches are in the NT.
Who decideded what was in NT? Men didnt, it was ultimately God preserving all the different accounts, all inspired by the holy spirit. The letter to Timothy says all scriputre is God breathed and good for correction, rebuking and teaching. The bulk of the church letters written by Paul are instructions for the church!!! How anyone can think the church would get by without these letters clearly hasnt read them!

Matthew 5
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

So by following the Law, you will attain perfect righteousness?

This:

And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Phil. 3:9

refers to this:

And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
Deut. 6:25

Again I'll ask. Do you light a fire on Sabbath? Do you drive on Sabbath? Prepare meals?

The law is spiritual, which means that it is meant to teach spiritual principles, which include equating those things. For example, the sages understood evil speech as killing the one who speaks it, killing the one who hears it, and killing the one about whom it is spoken, so Jesus was not expressing a new line of thought, but was talking about the spiritual principles that already existed in the law.
I don't buy this thinking the same as I don't buy a "spiritual" Israel either. You can ignore all day Paul's scripture that says if we are IN the spirit we are NOT under the Law thus this negates any spiritualizing the carnal Law into spirituality.

Salvation is by Jesus through His words, not by writings of absentees that contradict Jesus
How can Paul contradict Jesus when he was personally taught by Christ? There are no contradictions whatsoever and you would have to manufacture one.
