How much time does one need to let members know about the rationale behind drastic changes that are being made on an almost weekly basis to the rules, atmosphere, and vision of the site?

If there's enough time to make these kinds of changes, there's enough time to communicate them to the members.

If he cares about the site and turning a profit, he won't alienate the members who support it by asking for their input and then roundly dismissing it. No doubt that is why he seeks to turn a profit in ways that don't involve direct input from the membership. Hence the ads suddenly peppering even site supporter pages.
Snoochface (and everyone else who is still complaining about this issue), LeeD himself posted the following in regards to the ads showing up on site supporter accounts:

"I will DEFINITELY be taking care of the ads that are showing up for our SSers soon. Just waiting for my tech guy to come back online to aid me in this process. Which ads show up for SSers? Just the control panel?"

I have seen numerous references to the fact that ads on SS accounts are being addressed and will be removed. It's not as easy as everyone seems to assume when working with such a large site with HUNDREDS of pages of coding involved.

Why not? It's the new trend. One recent example snuck in on even the paying Members might be:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/t445824

Be warned, all of MNphysicist's naughty words, as well as a couple of other naughty ones, will be used there.
Why in the world would you even assume that something like that would be employed on a site like this??? LeeD has said that the issue with ads showing up on Site Supporter accounts will be fixed. Let's not continue to make assumptions.

I will DEFINITELY be taking care of the ads that are showing up for our SSers soon. Just waiting for my tech guy to come back online to aid me in this process. Which ads show up for SSers? Just the control panel?

All the google adds havent seen anything of the banner adds yet. And they seem to get getting worse, at first it was only on my user CP page, and PM page, now they are also showing up on the main CF page

I would wonder, erwin was able to change the domain name without all sorts of adds showing up for site supporters. why is this such a problem when reversing the process.

As for the numerous references, this is the first post by Lee that I have read about fixing the problem

Why on earth would you assume they wouldn't be employed?

So... just because the site's name got changed back, you guys are all happy with the new owner's "vision"? I'm not. And you know why? It's not even to do with the site, it's to do with the ChristianForums IRC.

A few days ago, on IRC all the other channels except the main one were closed, and no new channels can even be created. Which is a very strict policy for an IRC network. The reason (taken from the log of a recent conversation on IRC):

[29.11.07][21:14:54] <Lee> other IRC channels were killed due to them being hard to manage

Which was not true at all. I was an IRC operator (basically the same as admin) on the network, I'm online almost 24/7, I read most of the stuff that ever gets said there and I can assure you no channel was nowhere near being "hard to manage".

But personally for me that pales in comparison with the way I am suddenly not allowed to be an IRC operator any more just because I'm not forum staff. I've been around on that IRC network for a very long time, and cared for the place as an IRC operator for over the last four months, while no one else had time or willingness to be around on a regular basis. But the latter, together with knowing what you're doing, is exactly what is needed to make sure everything is okay (trolls and spammers being kept out, no abuse, etc). Lee's reply to another IRC user asking about this?

[29.11.07][21:21:22] <segosu> so now those who have invested time into running this place are told to go away?
[29.11.07][21:28:19] <Lee> this is what I feel is the best move for CF at this time

No, it's not taken out of the context or anything, yes, that was the reply to the question indicated. Frankly, I was very shocked at this attitude and to this day I can't fully believe what is happening.

As most of you know I decided to bring back the old domain name as part of the transition in to what I would like this place to be. Our technical staff is working on the migration back to the CF domain and it should be done shortly. I belive this is one of many excited changes to look forward to and I want to thank you all for being patient with me in my new roll here. :groupray:

CFers rock!

 Thank you!

Thank you.
the optics of dropping the word Christian form the titles was so very bad in the first place.
The idea of wanting to be asociated with a forum that is unequivocally Christian warrants no apoligies.

I would hope that CF now gets back to its original vision of promoting orthodox (Nicene) Christian beliefs and values, and uniting Christians around those values. Rather than treating all values held by Christians as being of equal value and of equal worth, separating secular from sacred, the ways of the world from the ways of God, will be a very welcome second step.

...so who decides what is orthodox? What's sacred and what's secular? What's the ways of the world and what's the ways of God? Because I see a lot of good Christians being told they don't quite measure up to someone else's (not Gods) standards.

Do none of you ThankyousirmayIhaveanother posting members even see posts like Hazme's above?

So many in this thread have simply been joyfulhappyPraisetheLord regarding the name of this place, apparently not noticing or understanding that the name means nothing if it is attached to something that is not operating as one would expect a Christian effort to operate.

Yes, I read that post :) I still think the name change is a step in the right direction, I don't think it's an overnight cure to all the problems the site has.

I see the address has changed to christianforums.com - hooray! But the logo in the upper left hand corner needs replaced. I doublt alot of people will realize the site name changed back until the logo reflects the change.
Well there is a contest going on for this, for christmas, and I am sure after christmas, there may be another contest or someone will randomly make one. :) Maybe Star can make another one like the one uptop just say CF instead of 4U...
