Hi jtbdad,
Hi Digit! Thanks for the response.
That's a fair question actually, one I've wondered about a little recently anyhow as I often don't like some of the things that transpire here, it seems to encourage our worst, rather than our best on some occasions.
I admit it can get depressing at times to witness the behavior that passes as Christian on this board.
Anyhow, what makes it Christian?
Well, it proclaims it in the name first and foremost,
So does the Christian Science Monitor I wouldn't call it Christian. (although sometimes a very good newspaper)
it has areas that deal with Christian doctrine and theology,
So does a Muslim message board I sometimes read.
allows us to fellowship with each other, share problems and advise on issues.
As does a very interesting Hindu site that I have read
Basically, it's a Christian message board
This is where I obviously disagree, I'll tell you why. This site will not define "Christian". I can call myself a Hindu if I want but if a Hindu asks me how I am Hindu should I not have a working definition of what Hindu is? I'll give you another reason I do not believe this to be a "Christian" message board. It doesn't stand up for the name of Christ when it is attacked by non-believers. Instead it allows them their own forum where their blasphemy is allowed and encouraged. I have no problem with listening to others and dialogging with them, but as a Christian that dialog should always lead in the direction of Christ. Here if I tell someone that they are not a Christian according to how the Church and Scripture define Christian I am the one penalized although I have read numbers of posts promoting Islam or Atheism or any number of heresy's.
Additionally no "Christian" organization should ever put a non-Christian in a position of authority over Christians. This is a Scriptural premise that simply cannot be denied.
and it's purpose whould be defunkt if there were no Christians here.
Well actually now it is a for profit entity thus its purpose is to make money for LeeD. I have see no other "purpose" announced.
I think Erwin's original goal was to unite Christians and allow a cross-over section for fellowship between Christians and non-theists, which currently, is basically an area where we argue with each other. >_>
The one most important thing I learned about Erwin over the years as both a general member and as staff is that the only thing he was consistent in was his inconsistency.
Cheers!
