  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christian Separatism

But the Puritans at Massachusetts Bay were Christian seperatists who landed in America.

No, the Puritans were not separatists, they were Puritans. It's the same principle we're dealing with on this thread: the attempt to purify our society, vs. separate from it. If we take this colonial page out of history, it suggests separatism can't be all bad. It wasn't the separatists who had the Salem witch trials, it was the Puritans.

There are no more 'complaints' over blacks wanting to be 'seperate' then there are of 'Christians'...

The point of my post? I find it ironic that there are groups out there who look to be 'seperate' and garner little public outcry... yet Christians who do (and many aspects of society are demanding they do) are somehow worse.
who is recommending Christians be separate? is there a movement i am missing?
i would be interested in your response to my post regarding our scriptual responsibility not to separate from the world, as opposed to the african-american separatists who have no such burden.

Have you missed the court battles in an effort to remove Christianity and/or the Bible from the public? Whether it is 'In God We Trust'... or 'Under God'... or scriptures on monuments... the effort is there.

I agree with a lot of it... but not all.

Honestly if some Christians want to separate themselves from the world at large more power to them.

I live near one of the largest Amish communities in the US, they ARE the epitome of Christian separatists, and I wouldn’t think to be anything but supportive when someone thinks that much of their beliefs to separate themselves out from society. It isn't an easy or trivial thing to do.

Even if it is less drastic, like say if Christians want their own literature, and themed restaurants, parks, and movies, I really can’t say I blame them. I want similar things that cater to my ideological tastes. No, I have no problem with that at all.

It's when they want to force their particular interpretation of the Bible into law through popular opinion regardless of whose freedoms or rights it steps on that I have a problem with.

I think we have a case of Christian seperatism at this site.

ding ding ding ding you win the prize!!!

There are many Christians on this site who love nothing better than for non-Christians not to be able to post on it. And the CO area further separates the Christians, the supposedly doctrinally correct Christians vs those who are not quite Christian enough..:sigh:
