Would appreciate advice from fellow Orthodox but other denominations are fine too :)
I don't have children yet but my question is:
What can you do when homeschooling is illegal in your country and you want your children to be guided through faith and morals? Schools take up so much time it's almost impossible to keep them away from modern influence, especially as they grow older they'll be more prone to adapting to the standards of the world

Start teaching children young, before they go to school. And when they do go, keep talking to them and discussing. Find out what they are learning and ask them what they think about it and how that fits with the Bible. Encourage them HOW to think, how to evaluate what they are taught instead of just accepting it. Also encourage them to ask questions about your own faith and beliefs. I've found that many parents don't like it if their kids ask questions, it's just 'this is true. We believe it' and up to maybe 10 or so, the kids accept it. But once they are older, if they don't get answers, they will just walk away. You can't make children accept your own faith - but you can encourage them to seek answers and encounter the truth themselves.

In searching the net, the roma children in Bosnia often don't go to school - has that changed, or is it true ?

It depends a lot on whether the place is rural or not, many go to school but authorities mostly don't want to bother with them

The ones who don't go to school might be most blessed. I saw on the worldwide homeschool map that generally state run school is mandatory without exception.

Yes sadly
?
This is the way the world has been for centuries - state run or state religion run schools have increased their own power everywhere they had power to do so, and increasing every day, as prophesied in Scripture.

It remains true, "Raise up a child in the way they should go (not by the state), and when they are grown they will not depart far from it".

Yes, training the child the way they should go is rare, and requires home schooling usually, and it takes more time than anything else, and it is totally worth it to save their souls !

They won't even allow church or private schools? That's not good. I wonder if the elites follow the same rules.

All I can say is keep communication open. Allow your kids to ask anything they want, because the system plants hidden doubts and then works them into open disbelief eventually. This way they can bounce their questions off a mature Christian (that would be you...) who can give the vital perspective that young kids lack, and the assaults on their faith can thus be nipped in the bud.

I'm not Orthodox, however. :)

My parents would ask me about what I learned every day at dinner and fill in some gaps. People pushing an ideological agenda won't tell you everything, this includes teachers and guests that give presentations at schools in the US. They also took us to church every week, took what we learned there seriously at home (for the most part), and did devotions with us as close to daily as they could.

All I can think of to do is to explain to your kids the situation.

You need to spend a lot of time teaching them and a lot of time praying for them. Most important do not quit or give up. The enemy will do what he can to deceive you into thinking you are defeated. Do not give into his lies. We have the victory and the battle has already been won. Even the city we live in we can take it back again for God to bring HIM Praise - Honor and Glory.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
But yes, children are presented a lot of evil these days. You have to pray for them from the very start and pray for God's protection upon them.
