It has been asked, what have Christian Fundamentalists contributed to society ---- even the world?

My deep feeling is that Christian Fundamentalists have the clearest understanding of the phrase: WHERE THERE IS LIFE THERE IS HOPE...

The logic being that while a person lives, he may turn his life over to GOD and become a Saved individual through CHRIST; however, once he is dead all hope is lost.

So the Fundamentalist Christian has sought to protect life, promote life, and save life.

This is not true of most other cultures, who see life as cheap and disposable. Perhaps this is why in America there has been such a long outcry against abortion, as an example.

Fundamentalist Christians have had the most influence in the United States and is still somewhat of an influence.

Several hundred years ago, life was expendable. If a man was killed, it mattered little to society. In the Muslim nations, this can still be seen, as people are encouraged to throw their lives away in the act of blowing up "infidels" (as though GOD HIMSELF in incapable of dealing with such in HIS own way). Children are allowed to starve in the streets and die without a thought of love, care, or protection (as though oh well, that is the way things have always been ---- who cares).

I see the United States heading in this direction but see no recourse if the society at large loses it's Fundamental Christian influences... The nation will again imagine, as with the rest of the world, that life is cheap, and hope is but a meaningless word. All that counts is me, myself, and I...

That isn't valuing life; that is valuing an afterlife over life...

Its only "throwing their lives away" from your perspective. They, like you, are seeking to ensure their place in an afterlife through their actions in this life. They, like you, are valuing their next life over this one...

Who opposes government aid to such marginalized children (and adults) more often; fundamentalist Christians, or liberal Christians? How about health care? Do/did you support CHIP? Medicare/Medicaid? Those're dreaded "public option" health care programs, you know!!! ...destined to likewise contribute to the downfall of the US of A, if we are to believe the other side of the mouths of fundamentalists...

(Props to all previous posters, I couldn't come up with a pithy, one-off question. ;))

Where do you fall on the death penalty?

I believe that every life is very valuable, so valuable that if one is properly convicted of a malicious murder, then the ONLY thing that will pay for such an offense is if that individual forfeits his life in payment.

By properly convicted, there must be at least three witnesses to the crime. If one cannot be convicted as such, but there exists such compelling evidence that the individual was involved in the crime, if convicted, that individual should be placed in jail for an extended stay, which might either be terminated if that indvidual is later found to be innocent or if witnesses are found, then executed.

I don't know if that answers your question.

How do you feel about situations where people bomb clinics and kill doctors who perform abortions?

In a honest situation, there would be no abortions clinics. Abortion would only occure in conjuntion with an injured mother, the premature death of a baby, or complications related to a delievery were the mother's live was at stake.

NO ABORTIONS WOULD OCCURE AS THE RESULT OF CONVENIENCE ---- which in fact is premeditated murder.

However, again, if one is convicted of a crime that causes people to die and there are at least three witnesses to the crime, then such an individual must pay with his own life. He has taken the law into his own hands.

How do you feel about the Crusades?

The Moslems started it. Declared war is not murder. One could question what the Japs did at Pearl Harbor, but the Moslems invaded Palestine and later Constantinople. They were hardly innocent victims.

They are placing a value on saving themselves at the expense of the "damnation" of everyone else... That hardly seems a virtue.

Let me get this straight.

1. Abortion is murder. Ok. (you value life in this instance)
2. The Crusades (war in general?) is okay because the Moslems started it. Kind of tit for tat. Nope. (Have trouble seeing how causing addition deaths to control land is placing great value on life).
3. Convicted murders should be executed when there is undeniable evidence. Controdictory. (If every life is valued, how is causing a second death promoting life).

It seems that the only strong, consistent argument regarding appreciating life comes from your stance on abortion.

By the way, you may not know it, but the term 'Japs' is not the best way of referring to Japanese.

So the Pope declaring that killing Muslims would earn a Christian a place in heaven....Crusaders killing and eating Saracen civilians....Crusaders rampaging through Jerusalem killing at will (Including other Christians)...that was what?

"He started it" is not an acceptable excuse.

It is not contradictory to expect equal value compensation for the loss of a valuable asset. The reality is that the alternative is keeping the murderer incarcerated for the rest of his natural life. But should that be at the expense of society which has been threated and suffered the loss.

Could not that money be better spent. One may not realize that people in jail cost about $40,000.00 dollars a year to hold there. Poor people are expected to live on under $10,000.00 a year. Are they of less value?

Is a muderer more important to society? That is the contradiction as I see it!

Those that attacked Peral Harbor in a sneak attack are not to be respected for such a deed. The term is appropriate if not an understatement.

The Moslems, were the invaders. They eventually moved into Spain. Hardly someone to feel sorry for.

Can they possibly appretiate life when they strive so hard to eliminate all the things that make life enjoyable?

Confucius say: Smelling the roses is free, but may not be enjoyed while drunk.

The problem with your argument is that it costs more to execute a prisoner than to jail him for life. So why should life not win out (especially since your thread is about how you have respect for life), especially when we occasionally find innocent men have been executed?
