I'm disappointed that reports will be private again. I think it really helped people to see what mods do when working reports. Many of the concerns that lead to 777 in the first place had to do with secrecy, and the idea (mistaken or not) that staff did whatever we liked behind our closed doors. The openness has helped. I hate to think of us going back to the pre-777 animosity based on secrecy.
I agree and not only that, it showed that members better familiarlized there self with the rules as well.

Unfortunately, it sounds like we're returning to the old system that gave moderators virtually unlimited power and led to the Gestapo like tactics they use now.
alot of us are cringing about that. The worse thing is now we see who's moving higher up on the staff and what "leanings" they have... it's alot of concern for traditional & conservative Christians.

If it ends up being what what we think it could be, I"ll be very happy to post here less & spend more time in other ministries.

I agree. Erwin had a lot of posts, but this place still ended up being a clearinghouse for every false doctrine under the sun, and a place where the moderators abused their authority with no accountability.

I don't know the new guy, but it's hard to imagine that he could be any worse.
 My sentiments exactly.

Why call it Christian and then open it up to universal religion??? (THEN, TIE THE HANDS OF CHRISTIANS TO WARN ABOUT WHAT IS FALSE???)!!
 :swoon: & they wonder why the site is imploding.

Nadiine,

You have a point. Tis why I am a bit more optimistic of this change. Returning to how it was before 7-7-07, is more spot on.

AND PRIVATE REPORTS DIDN'T?? lol:help: :tutu:
I don't think it did, or at least, not on this level. Private reports led to a lot wondering what was going on, some were upset about the secrecy issue, but conflicts on the forum didn't escalate to nearly the level it has.

Thanks for this post, Steve. A wonderful illustration of a totally OT post which, by the new rules, would be eliminated ASAP! :)

As is yours. Have a good day.

Maybe I missed it if it was posted, but why?

Besides the pat, it's Lee's site and that is what he wants.

Lee runs a bunch of forums. My guess is that it just works better that way in his experience. I'm assuming a lot of the functional changes will take place with that as a guiding reason in some fashion.

How many other message boards with over 2,500 active members at one time have open reports? My guess, and it is only a guess is that the decision is informed by what has worked elsewhere in similar situations.

That is only a guess. If I remember his first posts Lee also has consulting people looking at these forums.

So ideally (that is ideally) decisions will be guided by a balance of what is possible and practical with Christian principles as the guiding factor.

That's my guess.

I have some big reservations about these propsed changes. Especially private staff forums and private reports and I worry about our Non-Christian staff members and where they'll be exiled too after these changes simply because of some people's opinions of Non-Christians and what powers or rights they should have here.

But I will wait and see like everyone else. I will say the temp rules seem OK.

I don't know if the new stuff is good or bad. I have my opinion.

But...what I do know is that the reservoir of trust and goodwill has been empty for a long time. Look to this as a chance to refill it.

Lee brings and outside eye. That is not a bad thing. If he informs it with advice from a wide range of people who are experienced here it could be a good thing.

Can people be wary...sure. That's normal.

But this is a chance for a full new start. It was likely the one thing that would refill the reservoir of goodwill. Give all the benefit of the doubt and leave past baggage at the door.

That was not possible with 7-7-7. And for others it was not possible before.

Now, it should be possible to be still and wait and give the benefit of the doubt.
