The OP isn't really asking for suggestions or advice, but I presume that this is what this thread is here for.

Sharing of information about one's beliefs, for instance by quoting Bible verses or witnessing, is encouraged.

This is what we need more of, so I'm going to offer this verse:

Ephesians 4

1As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Is the infraction system in effect now? If so, how does it work? Are there warnings again or what?
I'll try to answer this. The infraction system is back, but it's different from before and a number of staff members (like me) weren't around before 7/7/07 and don't have experience with the old system, either.

Once we are trained on how to use the system and the protocols are finalized we'll start using the warning/infractions. I'm not sure how long that will take, but a lot of people are putting a lot of work into getting this sorted out and ready for prime time. I doubt that will happen before Monday at the earliest, but I could be wrong.

This is absurd... my post which was about the topic has been deleted and yet many of the off-topic jokers are left here

And we are unable to post for several days just cos' some jokers want to stop the topic being discussed.... if this is an example of how well the new rules work, it stinks of corruption at high levels...

people have edited on basis of what THEY want said , it is sick beyond belief , like much of the site already... and closed the thread when it was topical , punishing many people who were having a serous discussion of the issues for no fault ... there was no need to close the thread and punish everyone for sake of a few fools larking around, punish the culprits ...ONLY !!

But why has relevant discussion been deleted too... this is just political censorship about an issue that effects us all, and it is NOT acceptable at all ...

Debate and off topic posts were moved to a derail thread, which is still visible to members and to LeeD. Here is a link to that thread.

If you feel that your post was erroneously moved to that thread, please report it (or PM a Support Team member with the post number), and we'll take a look. If we agree with you, we can move the post back.

Thanks, but shouldn't the members be given time to understand the system (which, it sounds like, is complicated enough that staff is still trying to understand it) and get their questions answered before it goes into effect? Particularly if there will be warnings and records and bans and all that again?

ETA: I know this is not your decision, so my question was really rhetorical for now, and ultimately directed to whomever makes those kinds of decisions.

Check out the announcements at the top of each forum every day or so. Angeldove97 has made a couple of announcements pertaining to the changes and will continue to do so.

Why is that thread closed?

Is there nothing there worth discussing?

Look up at the top of every forum there is now a site wide announcement up there that shows how the warnings and infractions will work.

Feel free to link to a post or posts in a new discussion if you like.

You might want to wait until the new wiki forum for rule discussions is opened later today, because the W/RD forum will be closing. See Arborvita's announcement in the W/RD forum.

Even reading the few new posts, it is easy to see which are uplifting, and which are more controversial. Controversy is not necessarily bad, but there should be some nice way of dealing with the in-your-face, aggressive comments that some posters make. Perhaps the "cooling off" suspension is a good start.

When Jesus was preaching, he often went into the synagogues to present his message; for example, here is an account in Matthew 4:

23Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom,

Now, you'd think that this would have caused great turmoil and argument, and actually, sometimes it did; but most of the time, this is how Jesus was judged:

22All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips.

I think we can all learn from this, and should apply it here. Jesus had the advantage of being face to face with his opponents, which I think encouraged politeness; it's a bit harder here on the faceless Internet, which is why we all need to be extra careful about what we say, and why moderators need to have efficient tools to deal with discussions that get out of hand.

I think that would be the emotional bank account that people maintain between themselves and others.

I was looking for an official answer rather than a guess.

I want two things:

1. For the staff to admit that there is a HUGE problem, and that their behavior has been part of it.

2. To see some verifiable evidence that we aren't going to simply have more of the same old same old.

So far this has not happened. To date, I have conversed with ONE STAFF MEMBER - COUNT THAT, ONE - THAT HAS BEEN DECENT AND CORDIAL. The rest have either been totally unresponsive, or have been belligerent and argumentative.
Was there something more I could have done?

Here is an example of a post I personally find disappointing:

This is absurd... my post which was about the topic has been deleted and yet many of the off-topic jokers are left here

So when we find a post "disappointing", should we send a PM to the poster, suggesting an edit?

Should we send in a report and burden the moderators?

Should the moderators be able to instantly remove posts until an edit is made?

I notice that there is now a "cooling off" period suspension- which is good- but I still think we need a better way to identify and deal with posts and posters which do not uphold the spirt of Ephesians 4:

1As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
