  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Christ crucified"

Christ was crucified for the sins of the world, made sin for us, so that we, through Him, may be saved from our sins and come into true relationship with God.

Gal 3:10-14 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (11) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. (12) And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. (13) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (14) That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

That he took upon himself my sins. That he suffered and died for me. That had I been the only one that needed saving, he would still have done all he did, even just for me, alone. That's as I see his love for all mankind. Each one. And for me, personally, I am most humbly grateful.

If it was only a human who was crucified and rose again, we are all still stuck in our sins without any remedy.
Good point... I would like to add that the same applies if it were only a god crucified. It was demenstrated, not just with words, but with action and the last drop of His blood that a man does not have to hate, even while his life is being unfairly taken from him.

Is there a law somewhere that men have to hate?

A man does not have to eat peas either.

You have a marvelous grasp of the obvious.

"Christ Crucified" what does this mean to you?

It means that it could also happen to anyone who will peddle and live such radical teachings as Jesus did.

It just so happens that "crucifixion" is the worst form of punishment in their times. Today, you could be jailed, hanged, beheaded, mutilated. You'll be declared an enemy by many including your own (even Christian) relatives!

Why only few in this world seem to be suffering such extremes only supports prophecy made by Jesus - "only few will find it"

getting my head cut off sounds so easy compared to some of the things I heard the saints and Christ suffered. we would all be lucky if death was so easy for holding to Christ! to bad evil spirits like to torture people! it seems like not many at all are going to be worthy of suffering and dying for Christ. it is a shame, I wish I could be worthy, I hope I can be one day. torturing people and killing others is rather sick and evil imo. I have read some amazing things about martyrs, of a child that had his tongue and hands and feet cut off... that is a Godly strength to endure such things for Christ! I can't imagine being whipped 39 times, with a whip that has pieces of metal and glass in it! CRUEL and SICK!

I had recently learned how they nail a persons feet to the wood of the cross. they nail their heel bone to it.... just something to think about... how Christ suffered so much. the baptism of blood is the right hand of Christ. how worthless I truly am, not able to bare such things for him. i hope to be so in love with Christ as ignatius was... I don't wanna think of the pains and sufferings. O how I wish I could cling to Christ through it all.

:amen:

Roman soldiers tend to be quite sadistic and that is the result you get. It's the fate suffered by early Christian martyrs at the hands of the Romans.

We're far more civilized now... ...Unless you plan to do God's work in one of those desperately lawless places/countries where you can potentially suffer same levels of torture as Christ suffered which a question begs to be answered: who will witness to those people?

Many will misunderstand these as suicidal tendencies. In reality, it's more like an occupational hazard. People will be extremely hostile to the Truth for the truth takes aware their food - things that cater to the flesh; what everyone desires in life. What the world esteem are abominations to God. Even people who call themselves Christians will be hostile to the Truth!

"Christ crucified": what does this mean to you?

1Cor 1:18-25 (YLT)
for the word of the cross to those indeed perishing is foolishness, and to us--those being saved--it is the power of God, for it hath been written, `I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the intelligence of the intelligent I will bring to nought;' where is the wise? where the scribe? where a disputer of this age? did not God make foolish the wisdom of this world? for, seeing in the wisdom of God the world through the wisdom knew not God, it did please God through the foolishness of the preaching to save those believing. Since also Jews ask a sign, and Greeks seek wisdom, also we--we preach Christ crucified, to Jews, indeed, a stumbling-block, and to Greeks foolishness, and to those called--both Jews and Greeks--Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God, because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men;

it seems to be some kind of spiritual reality. it appears to be the key to knowledge and the power of God. it puts to shame everything and says to us, "die to live". it makes us appear as fools and weaklings and yet it is of God.

Gal 2:20-21 (YLT)
with Christ I have been crucified, and live no more do I, and Christ doth live in me; and that which I now live in the flesh--in the faith I live of the Son of God, who did love me and did give himself for me; I do not make void the grace of God, for if righteousness be through law--then Christ died in vain.

this seems to be a flood of grace, the thing to be desired, the true reality of who we should be with Christ in this world. I think it is the gateway of the true and deep wisdom of Christ. and the way to be closer to God and united to Christ. it is a new life, that is not of the world. this is the kind of life that Christ lived on the earth, in a deep communion with Father and I believe if we are as Christ, as in crucified with him to the ways and mindsets of the world, we shall be able to have a deep communion with God. the old man dies and the spiritual man lives in the newness of the Son of man who is also the Son of God! the 2 who were divided now are united in Christ, our prime and first example. the true reality of who we should be in this world. no longer being defective humans of sin, we can be as Christ was in this world.

Gal 6:14 (YLT)
And for me, let it not be--to glory, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which to me the world hath been crucified, and I to the world;

Christ crucified is the archetype, the prime example and vision of what we must be and do in this world of darkness. Christ saves us from the world and its evil by we dying to its ways with Christ, it is the grace of God so that we may have new life, which is Christ, the Son of God. dying to our human self, the man of dust, we are made as Christ is, namely the Son of God. if we suffer with Him we shall also reign with Him. the old adam dies so that the new adam lives. it is how we are restored to God, how we gain back fellowship with God. it is first a spiritual martyrdom and to those whom God deems worthy, physical martyrdom. to suffer here and now in this world means to forever never suffer again in the next, not being affected by the second death, since we died here already.

the fall was death and now Christ has made death the way back! Christ blood crys out to the Father as our High Priest and may we also be worthy to be priest of Christ and die and our blood cry to the Father in some smaller manner as Christ blood crys such good things.

Heb 12:24 (YLT)
and to a mediator of a new covenant--Jesus, and to blood of sprinkling, speaking better things than that of Abel!

Heb 9:14 (YLT)
how much more shall the blood of the Christ (who through the age-during Spirit did offer himself unblemished to God) purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Eph 2:13 (YLT)
and now, in Christ Jesus, ye being once afar off became nigh in the blood of the Christ,

Christ was made our curse and so now we can be cursed as was Christ in this world, so much more shall we be blessed with Christ in this world and the one to come! for Christ is the one that gives life, he is our life, and to non-believers he is accursed, but to believers blessing unfathomable! Christ was made our curse and we no longer have to be cursed with our own curses of dissidence, disobedience, and sin. the curse of Christ is the cross and His life, he did it for us, so that we may live with God! if He came and died for us, it shows what kind of God He is! if His foolishness, weakness, and curse is so much life and overabundance in this life, how much more the wisdom, the power and the blessings of God forevermore?! if his death is life for us, so much more will His resurrection be, which belongs to those who love Him.

Gal 3:13 (YLT)
Christ did redeem us from the curse of the law, having become for us a curse, for it hath been written, `Cursed is every one who is hanging on a tree,'

we too shall be hanging on the tree if we take up our cross with Christ! so shall we always be with the Lord if we now cling to Him in this world of sin/darkness/error/lies/apathy for God.

The physical sufferings of our Lord were painfully atrocious, but we must remember there is more...thousands of people were tortured, crucified, killed because of their belief, some more horrible and gruesome than Jesus.

Any man in his flesh can suffer physically, but Jesus suffered as God and man. We will never know the anguish and severity in which the crucified Christ suffered for us. To speculate or even attempt to do so minimizes the mystery and holiness of what was accomplished on the cross of Christ. We all have our crosses to bear, but there is only 1 cross of Christ. There is only one cross where our sin debt was paid, and where we were changed by God's grace and provision.

quite a number of things:

Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son, God relented
God offered His Son as a demonstration of His Love, we did not

There is justice and there is a cost to sin, sin which has permeated human existence since Adam and which we could never repay; Christ did for us

Adam through disobedience and pride brought us death; Christ with his love and sacrifice, brings eternal life - He submitted to death so that we may conquer death

God was humiliated and killed as a man, to be with us in all our suffering

We live in a state of ignorance, oblivious to the greatest miracle that is our daily existence, His resurrection cannot be ignored, tho' many of us still do

He sorta pushed Job around and had to make it clear that He does love us

there's more, but i don't want to create a wall of words

Really?

Crucified is just another form of death. Jesus died. The body died. The spirit didn't. The OP was "Christ crucified" not "Jesus crucified". The body itself was, not the spirit. It was asked what it meant TO ME.

Absolutely. With no hate or vindictiveness. People hate. That's what natural people do. Only a person led by the divine gets away from hatreds, prejudices and bigotry. Those that wallow in those things may believe they are lef by God, may claim it, might even have nice buildings of worship, but they just heap the hot coals on their own heads.
