  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What a fun trip Dave, including Costal Resort to include entertainment, food and a pub perhaps?

The Holywell 'excursion' is a week on Sunday

90 minutes at Holywell
120 minutes at Blackpool

The round trip is around 4200 minutes
and costs £15 EACH
and includes Tea/Coffee, Sandwiches, etc

As I have never been to Blackpool before...
Mary says, that I should view it, as a 'taster'
and if, and when I find that I LIKE the place.........
We could spend a couple of weeks there, later in the year

We have several 'excursions' in the pipeline at this moment
and have a 'Ball' to attend, on the 16th of this month

I used to be a HOME-LOVING guy and havent been OUT & ABOUT so-much
since my army-days

I am, not at-all, a PUBBING guy....Sis'
preferring, only an occasional bottle of beer, at home
Dullard not!!
We do [have-to] attend the occasional FAMILY party
to get home really late [in the early-hours next day!!]
:D:D:D:D

It sounds like a lovely trip dave thanks for the extra pictures. I would imagine it is a contemplative site for Catholic believers then? Is the water thought to have 'healing powers"? Where is Blackpool is it on the same side as Liverpool?. I never made it to Liverpool when Iwas in England just drove from Scotland through the Lake disitrict to Manchester. Jan

Oh yes...Sis' it IS, a contemplative venue for Catholics, from around the world
The 'waters' ARE reputed to have, such powers/ minerals in them
and have since ancient times been a site 'revered mystically'
I WILL, learn more with the passage of time

There was a similar WELL at Buxton [recent trip]
The water [from there] is shipped both nationally and internationally

Yes, it is my understanding that all three sites are, on the west coast of England and the north west coast of Wales
I will look for a map that shows all three TOGETHER

I will have been living here in Manchester
for eleven calendar months > TOMORROW June 6th
Already, it feels that I am SETTLED here [alt. this, will do me now!]

Hope you have lovely weather for your excursion.
Are you going with a group?
I for one am looking forward to seeing your photos.
The website was very interesting
and I looked up a bit more from Wikipedia.
Will you see the well head itself?
Have a beautiful day together Dave and Mary

:blush::blush::blush::sorry::sorry::o:o:confused::doh::doh::doh:

Herewith, my deepest and profound apologies
for unintentionally misleading everyone with regard to our 'announced trip'

Having been told it was Holywell [venue #1 on our trip]
I have now, been informed, more-thoroughly [with literature]
that the first venue in the list, is, to Ladywell [near Blackpool]
On Sunday June 15th 2008

Mary was very embarrassed, to have gotten it so-wrong

Timings for the excursion are also amended

We leave Salford at 08.30am and are returned to Salford at 08.00pm
A round-trip of, almost twelve hours

Again, this is a well, that has been the subject of pilgrimages, since, ancient times
And, of significance, to the Roman Catholic Faith, even-today

I found this [in answer to your query Jan, re: it's being "a contemplative-site ?"

http://www.saintwinefrideswell.com/meaning.htm

Although, we now know, that we WON'T be visiting that particular site

YOu are just on an earlier clock than we are dave. It is only 4:30 pm here and I believe you are already sleeping. I don't have much time before work to enter posts except maybe on Wednesday when I start work an hour later. Just a matter of ships that pass.... so to speak. I am sure the new trip will be just as fun and interesting as the one you thought you were going on. I wondered though as you mentioned Blackpool in the mix and I didn't think Blackpool was on that side of England. I could be wrong there though for sure. As for manchester area my husbands uncle is buried in a war memorial cemetary in Chester. We never had time to visit it but his mom has on an earlier trip to England. Jan

I hope you have safe travels.
It looks like a lovely time for both you and Mary.
My Holmes and Butterworth sides of the family came from England and if not for the trip I have always wanted to visit. Not a flyer, so I won't be seeing alot of places I would like too.
