I do not know how to explain it; it is another server other than the one you normally use (like internet explorer)
TY gave it to me to use http://anonymouse.org/anonwww.html
We typed in WWW.christianforums.com in the address box you see there, and the proxy got us in here.
For some reason, those using firefox and IE could not get in....
We got little pop up ads with it (not too bad;1 per page view), it was a bit slower, and we had to use the homepage to navigate the forum.
I would use it again if needed!

Proxy server - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application program) that acts as a go-between for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server.

Types and functions · Risks of using ... · Proxy software
 • en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_server
 • · Cached page

But, please Note:

Internet Explorer, also offers In-Private-Browsing
it also offers, Internet Explorer to surf without ADD-ONS
for example: No Flash Player and no Images
reading TEXT-ONLY pages is the safest way to use the internet

I didn't know you could do that...how do you do that then, and when is it necessary?

It is possible for OTHER SITES
to enter a server and leave 'mouse-over links' [otherwise invisible]
when you are redirected to their site, clicking on a link on their page
can be, very hazardous [and, ultimately VERY SILLY]

CF's server and database SHOULD BE protected
from being so abused... but as soon as steps are taken
to close the door on them
'they' find other ways to get in and do their stuff

When we treat CF as a trusted site
we 'inherit' any vulnerability that CF has
and merely by linking with it, we become the FRUIT on the tree

These are the WHY's of doing what I have done
HOW you can do the same....
will depend upon the browser you use
I use Internet Explorer 8 [public release]
having helped it's being founded, by my use of it's Beta releases

You can ensure the popup blocker is on by clicking
on the Tools menu top right of the browser window
then selecting popup blocker
and, in the submenu ensure it is switched ON

To block a site from visiting your computer through your browser
you must acquire it's site-address/url
click on the address url at the very top of your browser window
and while it is highlighted
right-click the address and select Copy from the menu
NEXT click START, right click the Internet Explorer shortcut/link
and select Properties

at the top of the Explorer properties window
click on privacy
locate and click on the button labelled Sites
in the bar below address of website
right-click and select Paste from the menu
now with that address in the bar
to the right of the bar click on Block
click OK at the bottom and also on the page below

You have now, instructed your browser
to block the site that has pestered you
Microsoft will add to these Blocked Addresses
from the announced experience of other IE users
I estimate my list, already has, over a hundred such sites in it
although I havent counted them

:) Thanks for the info Dave

I tend to use Firefox..but we seem to be having more stuff happening since we chamged from Norton to Commodo...trouble is we don't understand everything, and all sorts of things to do with the antivirus thingy pop up, but we don't really know always what to do with it.
I'm going to be doing a computer course..but it may not cover all this sort of thing - I hope it does.
My sons sometimes just x it out if something comes up that they don't understand, but I tell them if the virus scan comes up, they ought to let it run, and press the fix it button, if there are any threats?
This pc doesn't belong to me , but to my son...trouble is they can't always be bothered to read stuff through to undwerstand it...mind you, even if I try and understand stuff, I don't always understand the terminology. Maybe I should get a book out of the library...but there seems to be so much to even understand ing the basics, it's difficult. And I don't know anyone personally who can explain everything to me, or even the basics.

Sorry Annie
but these things are happening to a CLEAN PC
with IE 8 public release browser

I am about to report this site to Microsoft
and will add it to my browsers BLOCKED LIST

 dave
Hi Dave,

Well, I still have no problems being "re-directed"
BUT
now I can no longer directly "Log-in" either.
Anyway you look at it, CF is a mess! :( ! ^_^
and you can't even report it in "BUG-reports, as that logs one out again. How convenient, for the site

So finally I posted frustration in the Chat-box :D lol

Hi
as I said in my REPS to you --> THANKS for this  link, the only way to "log-in" here :(

Other sites don't have all these problems, that CF has on a continuing... (argh!!!) basis.

I am off to bed in a little while and don't really have time to go into this in any depth
But you have my assurance, that, my-experience with Comodo
has instilled increasing-confidence within me

To start, the program is intuitive...
iow: it 'learns' what you are confident with
When you are installing 'something-new'
that wants to place scripts [to control] sensitive-areas of, your PC
it asks, if you TRUST the program you are installing

I would say... that if, you are installing a windows-program from Microsoft
and the Comodo Program pops up it's query
that you could click on the button
next-to 'TREAT THIS PROGRAM AS' >> 'a trusted application/ installer'
and ensure that the button REMEMBER THIS DECISION is checked

Comodo will remember this decision

When the popup asks repeated questions > what shall I do [?]
it displays the file that wants to alter access inside your PC
and basically waits to be told what to do

You have to stand on your own experience
~where you download from ~what you download

Where a virus /trojan is contained within the download
the Comodo program has been updated regularly with the latest threats
and can remove anything 'known' and quarantine it

The RESTORE facility
can reset your PC with files that have been accidentally removed
but ONLY if you created a restore point and didnt get rid of the previous one
~allowing you to back step MORE THAN ONCE

I will come back to this subject later
and pass on what I have learned

Annie

tansy and I, have both experienced periods
when, none, of these 'events' take place

So, maybe you are surfing whilst the 'booger' is dormant ?
Also, our 'setups' vary, and may be affected disimilarly as a result
a for-instance,
may be, that, whilst you were suffering
from connection problems > I was asleep
and therefore MISSED_OUT on such an experience myself

I am sure that there are / were
'things-awry' here in CF
I am still being signed-out whilst I am composing messages on the forums
but so-far, have been able, to get around that
by clicking on advanced signing-in
and am then able to proceed with submission of the message
that said, I have also experience LOST posts

'We shall overcome'

I am updating this message: http://christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=51230866&postcount=2498

with all unsolicited 'redirects' to alternative site pages
where, without my consent or intent
I am taken to another site, away from CF

I am also Blocking each and every such page
inside my browsers Privacy section
the most recent one [at the bottom] occured just a few moments ago

Good morning GE

Seems some are still having trouble getting in and around....
Last night I had a glitche after being fine for a few hours; today I am at 100% so far.

I appreciate the communication through Pauler and the A's about hints and progress, and getting feedback through pm's and the bug report (and thanks to the techies working it out)

Have a blessed day in the Lord

That too is my experience, these past few hours

it may be that the problem site is offline at this time
so, to impede it's becoming located

If this trouble repeats, I will contact staff

Hello Dave and Everyone,

All of you sound like a great group of folks, so I'd like to join you. I'm retired and disabled, but I do try to stay busy as a grandpa and Christian volunteer. I've read a little about some of you and look forward to getting to know you better.

I did read some about the redirect problems, and I want to mention some possibilities that might help. I use Firefox, mainly because of the large number of available extensions and ways to customize it. One can turn redirects off in Firefox options, but I also use several extensions related to security. Adblock Plus and NoScript are two excellent extensions that eliminate many security risks, including thousands of sites that only want to ruin your day and crash your computer. Installation is also easy.

I've also read quite a bit about DOS attacks and other sites trying to use various ways to limit access to Christian sites. I also like to use a HOST file that identifies thousands of sites that have recently done harm to others. The HOST file turns what the listed bad guys try to do into a harmless loop. I certainly don't have all the answers, but I thought these suggestions might help a few of you.

Hi and welcome 357Magnum to GE50+ forums

Thank you for your willingness to offer
suggestions of, possible-solutions to our present experiences
however, in the first instance, several of us are presently trying-out
new security processes... and this is a one-step at a time 'toe-dip'

I would be interested, were you to detail any recent experience of your's
regarding 'strange' site-activity since your membership of CF began [?]
I hope you will find much, to contribute to our forums... Please enjoy yourself

tansy... try this link to more information regarding Comodo

http://www.comodo.com/comodovision/consumer/issue2.html?

you can, rewind and watch/listen... as often as you wish/ need to

example... is often easier to understand than textual-instruction
