My key to music is, Can I understand the words sung, and can I actually hear the singer over the clap-trap behind them.

Singers like David Whitfield and Vera Lynn, Maxie Bygraves and even George Formby can be easily understood...that's what I call music. The rest you can have.

Cheers,

Jim

I am so-very-glad you did not say Des O'Connor

Well I'll tell you what I'm with Jim!! If you can't understand the words or hear the "music"(over the drums or the yelling)then I don't consider it "music" and calling it music is insulting to "music" I will also say that not all Christian music(or so they call it that) is honoring to the Lord! When I turn on my Christian radio station and they play music by some group that sounds like any group from the secular music station then I write the Christian station and tell them the way I feel!! It has helped because other people have finally gotten brave enough to write them also. When I have the Christian station on and a song is playing and my GS comes in and thinks I have a secular station on something is really going wrong in the Christian music world!
I don't consider myself old, just know what good Godly music is and that is what I want played in my house!!
Our bodies and minds are supposed to be a temple of God think we better fill it with things that honor the Lord. Anyone else agree to this way of living?
Bless

I am with you, B, and I think we might listen to the same Christian Radio station....I think mine comes out of Watertown or Syracuse..I think it is around 107.9 FM..

I have written about a few things,,,there and to our national radio CBC for the trash they have been playing the last few years....just plain garbage!

Cheers,

Jim
Mine is 88.3 Family Life Radio FM. But if we don't tell them what we think no changes will be made, after all I don't know about you but my station is donation supported(me for one)and I'm very fussy where my money goes.

Bright and sunny to-day, but colder than all get out. It is really hard to believe that we are near the end of January, and it is supposed to warm up again in a few days.
On the radio station, I can't check the dial because the light went out, so I just press the buttons to go to the station. I think it is one broadcast and different local stations pick it up.

Cheers,

Jim

I don't have the luxury of picking and choosing Christian Stations. I am glad you can pick up Christian ones Jim. In Canada as you know we don't have any christian radio at all. They tried here in Vancouver but it ended up becoming an easy listening AM station as it was a business and not a ministry. Now it plays mostly Sinatra who I do not appreciate.
Across the border in Washington there is a station that is pretty good 106.5 FM but its signal has just been compromized(never was great) by a new Canadian multicultural station .2 points up the scale at 106.3. It comes in clear on my computer but I mostly listen to music in the car when driving so that doesn't work.
It sounds like I am a lot more liberal with my listening than you guys. I never stop listening to music just because it doesn't "sound" Christian enough. When I was a teenager the Lord spoke to me through many so called secular songs only a few traditional ones although I did grow up loving hymns. I do agree that the message is the most important and should be heard though. I guess of all Christian music genres out now my favourite would be worship and that is what most Christian stations seem to play anymore. I am not a huge fan of rap but I have enormous respect to the young people out there trying to get a wholesome and life changing message to the masses through their music. The truth is todays kids will not turn to a Christian station to hear Good Christian Music. But there are hardy souls out there attempting to get that solid message in a familiar but better and more creative package(because they have the Spirit to inspire them) out to lost kids. Remember that the songs coming out of the Welsh revival were new Christian lyrics to old drinking songs. I can remember when God was speaking to me about recommitting my life to Him and using Jesus Christ Superstar to do it. It was kind of strange when on a long bus journey I had a christian tell me how of the devil it was instead of using it as a bridge to connect with where I was at spiritually. It was kind of sad really.
I always told my kids that it wasn't the notes that were evil in music as God created music so no style is inherently bad. (my theory) It is like any art form and can be used to convey a good pure message that puts man in his proper place and glorifies God or that exalts Man and blasphemes God. Enough time on the soapbox for one day.
Peace
Jan

Grace: The station I get comes from the USA. It is good most of the time, but the odd bad connection happens. I thought there was a Christian station that started up a fews years back in Alberta, but I guess it didn't last long. I never did get it.

Now, to-day is a lovely sunny day, but still exceptionally cold. I am now looking for our January thaw...lol. I am not about to start complaining, mind you. I shall leave that for someone else. Some things are better left off, if we are to live triumphant lives in the Lord.

Cheers, and God bless,

Jim

There is one in Lethbridge and it is a TV station too but I have no clue how to get it. Maybe online too. It is nice we do have that option but I with the CRTC(Canadian Radio and Television Commission) would be more flexible in granting licenses. I used to get a daily devotional booklet called The Word for You Today that is a Canadian publication that supported Christian broadcasting in Canada. I think there was a station they mentioned in Ontario. But like I say they are few and far between. We were supposed to get sun today but it came yesterday so are back to drizzle again it seems colder than 6 degrees C. Who knows I find the weather is never predicted very correctly anymore.
Dave still wondering about the storms in Britain are any affecting you? You certainly were all bundled up in your photo. Jan.

Cheers,

I listen to Starr 99.1 here. For being so close to NYC we don't have a lot choices in Christian radio(music). I have started listen to the christian radio on my computer. No DJ, no commercials. I wish that I could just find one with a good mix.
For my oldies I just buy the CD's.

Oh by the way I'm from syracuse orginally. I Miss it!

You can get on the soapbox as often as you wish.
As a mom I know about all the garbage music out there. I just can understand or really want to why on earth anyone would want to listen to some of it.
My oldest son made a pledge way back when he was in jr high that he wouldn't listen to rock music. Well that pledge went down the tubes. He loved metallica and some of the other groups. Then he hit his 20's and married and became a Dad. Now he listens to Christian rock and has sort of gotten me hooked too.
But I really love all sorts of music except RAP!! That stuff is just plain garbage and promotes nothing good.
Now if I was going to get on a soapbox it would be about tv shows!!

I have a question
indeed I am puzzled
specifically, it concerns the reason 'WHY'
a member might wish
to DISABLE the "find all my posts" ?

It is not terribly important (am, just very curious)

Why would you want to find all a members posts anyway?
Hi Leytonstones

I am new here
and playing catch-up
I wished to learn
that which other-members has thus far read

My curiosity was aroused
when I discovered a member had done this

bless! it became a mystery ?
as to why
a gal or guy would want to hide
his or her content here, on CF

The content that I author is an open book to all

? intrigue ?

The Lord speaks to everyone differently and also we were not allowed to listen to junk(at the time) it had to be good music according to my parents. So I never listened to the kind of music that was popular at the time. It's ok, just how the Lord directs.

Dave I wonder the same question but like you said I guess people have their reasonsfor blocking their posts. I do like to check out posts so I can get to know a person better. Sometimes it helps to read what they have written before especially on the Devotional or Discussion Threads. Jan

I've wondered it also. But some of the Forums that are here people may have insight to help another person and may feel they would like to keep the fact they were on it private, just think a minute about some of these forums. It would be nice if we could keep private some things then open it back up again later.

Hi Jan and Bonnie ?

yes of course
we could come across
each INDIVIDUAL post PROBABLY
should we 'scan' the horizon

" a reason for everything & everything for a reason "

but then I considered
I might not like
what has been hidden

Bonnie I am sure you can create a drafts folder
and upload from there when you are ready
