Thanks Dave, we used to be camping and boating for this holiday...now we are sitting at home. Feels good to me...I have been out every morning since last Saturday...a nap is surely going to be on my to do list today.

Hope all is well for everyone...I saw you got a "job" there...something that sounds interesting for you I think Dave.

Thank you Ladies [Shirley and Gail]

Yes it is a job in which we will have a beneficial interest
More than that, we will close 'the gaps' with less well-known neighbours
and neighbouring streets

Mary and I and several neighbours
attended a police and local authority event, this afternoon
The police gave away personal safety alarms and house window alarms
while the local authority took a survey of residents needs and suggestions
and gave away fridge-magnets with handy phone-numbers on them and also
a long reach gripper, one of which, I claimed ;)

I was there, to be introduced to residents
as first-resort intermediary between, residents and police and local authority
Our phone number was passed-around,
so that any questions re: this initiative could be collated by me,
and interventions be proposed, if necessary

Presently, it doesn't appear that I have taken-on, more-than I can handle
;) one day at a time

All in all it has been a very-different [not to say difficult] week
and 'hump day' was, only yesterday
I can tell it is going to be a long one

We have some trips up and coming, one to Blackpool [for the day]
Blackpool - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
and the other to a meal in Southport, in Merseyside ~just north of Liverpool
Southport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
after which, we will have a stroll around for several hours before returning
I WILL take my camera

I won't say WHEN, these trips will occur [for home security reasons]
but will simply, report our return, as they are accomplished

Thank you Gail Sis'
I don't envisage the job becoming, too-stressful
but I can delegate to my Deputy and play 'catch-up' later

We well remember our trip to Lake Windermere in the Lake District
It rained almost continuously, from the off and, the breaks in between
were so very-brief, you may recall seeing photos of sewer overflows and flooded roads [?]

Yes, we have visited Blackpool on a number past occasions ~photos, as I find them

I don't remember visiting Southport before
so, it will be as new to me as it will be to you ~when you see the photos

We have something similar here called neighborhood watch, but i don't know how successful it is...our area has surely seen a rise in crime and breakins...
you are a good people person Dave and i hope you enjoy this involvement with the neighborhood.

My wife and I had a nice and quiet 4th of July. We went to the gym early and then out to eat. We got home early enough to avoid all of the drunk drivers. Our little Hank, the Shih Tzu, doesn't like fireworks and had to spend the evening in laps for protection. :D

Hi guys.
Congratulations on your new role in the community, Dave.
I'm sure you'll manage it very well.

Tom, there's nothing wrong with potatoes so long as they're cooked healthily,
eg. baked or boiled.

Andrea is home for a while, recuperating from her surgery
which happened last Tuesday.

Busy day today - ready to put my feet up!

God bless all.

Gillian

Thank you Gillian Sis'

It is all about uniting the community to stand together
and reduce crime and unsociable behaviour in the area
by turning-about
the 'turn a blind eye', and 'mind my own business' ATTITUDE
that has become adopted [perhaps, for fear, of reprisal]
When residents are assured, that their needs WILL be recognised
and, 'action' WILL BE TAKEN, to remedy discomforts and threats to local peace
Life here can, only, become better

May Andrea recover quickly
Enjoy your resting

For sure, the outcome for the many, can only improve, with their involvement
contributing to Team Play [safety, in-numbers]
More 'witnesses' and what could be an early warning system, to others nearby
of suspicious 'strangers' visiting the area
It is still 'early-days', for all of us
I am seeing a lot of 'cannot be bothered' mindsets,
and 'so what, so long as they leave us alone, we don't care'
To which my response is,
"what if, someone sees your home being burgled, or, wrecked
and doesn't call the police ?"
"Would you wish they had ?"

We have, in recent years, had several 'muggings' nearby
and I have the promise of the local authority, that white lamp-posts
replacing the yellow [sodium] lighting we have here at the moment
will soon be installed, to better illuminate the guineals [alleys] around here

By far the greatest disturbance to the neighbourhood, is schoolchildren
going to and from schools nearby, they are loud and noisy [girls scream ?]
and they litter the area wantonly
The neighbours and I, are pressing the police/local authority for cctv
so that blame can be rightfully attributed and offenders proceeded against

Teddy doesn't like loud fireworks either, Tom
He becomes so-distressed, that he can lose control of his body functions
I do close windows and doors and play music / TV a little louder
to reduce his perception of them
They have such good hearing, that they can still feel the vibrations
that those 'earthquake bombs' create, through the floor

Have a good day all

The Pops had a nice show featuring the first responders from the bombing, local artists, and the MBTA cop who survived the shooting by the terrorist.
We also had plenty of fireworks on the lake...in spite of a recent warning that they would call the cops.

This is because of a few complaints of people who have kids

I was a wee bit nervous with a guy way in back of us to the right setting them off...afraid he'd spark a fire (all woods between and behind us).
Thankfuly Ms Penny (bold pup that she is lol) is not disturbed by them at all!
All was well ~ it was a hot, but nice day

Our little town did have a fire works show...I did not hear anything going on in my immediate neighborhood...so things were very quiet for us last night.

We finally had a morning cool enough for a walk...have not been out for about 3 weeks. We were back by 6:15am...walks take about 30 minutes.

Not much happening here for the weekend...

Boy that icecream float looks good :yum:
It reminds me of the old soda fountains at the drug stores as a kid :D

We started walking again too..early mornings to be the heat, but I am fighting deer flies the whole time  (yep...swatting at my head lol)
Thankfully they are not around ALL summer  (long enough though :p )

We don't get too many bugs flying here when it is this dry...and government controls the mosquito life. The cooler morning was so enjoyable today...just waiting now for Fall...my mostest, bestest, favorite time of the year.

I remember the old ice cream floats tooo....yummy!

My little Tula was petrified too, my neighborhood goes berzerk on the 4th. I wrapped her in a receiving blanket and kept her tightly snug to me in my recliner. I took her to bed with me and let her sleep with me. Poor little thing was shivering she was so frightened. It's the first time she has been on my bed.

I hate fireworks. I got injured by fireworks when I was young so I'm nervous around them myself. Tula is fine today though, recovered quite well, as though nothing had happened.
