Hello back to Susie - I'm happy to hear that you're getting settled in, and I congratulate you on your wedding. I pray that God gives you many happy years.

My wife's appointment with the lung specialist yesterday was very positive, even though there is disagreement on the diagnosis. The pulmonologist said that it was Lupus, but it was a type that could be managed with high quality of life. He tripled the primary medication and ordered several followup blood tests over the next month. We're not worried about the disagreement as long as the treatment works. Regardless, my wife and I both feel better about things now.

Yes, this is excellent news that makes us very happy. If we understand correctly, there are numerous diseases in this category that are difficult or impossible to treat. It won't be easy, but we are assured there are good treatments that will work. They already have hard evidence that the right medications work extremely well in controlling this. I'm trying to learn about this condition now, and I find it very challenging. It's an auto-immune disease where the wires get crossed and the body starts attacking itself. It thinks there is a disease present to fight, but it ends up creating a disease by trying to fight something that isn't there. I know - CONFUSING. In this first instance, Lupus attacked my wife's lungs. According to the pulmonologist, what we can expect next is the medication getting everything under control. She will require treatment for the rest of her life, and there are some negative side effects to the medications. My wife and I are both strong Christians, so we expect to do just fine with God's help.

11 days ago, I was riding with husband on a motorcycle, with a group of friends. The bike hit a loose spot in the road and we started to skid. My foot got caught under the saddle bag. When the bike finally landed, I knew either my foot or ankle was broken. The whole time my foot was dragging, I was praying that nothing would happen to my knee. (prayer answered!). There we were, up on a mountain in an isolated area. No phone signal. Two men drove up in a pick up and saw something had happened. Driver, Ron, asked what had happened. He asked if there was anything he could do. We asked where the nearest hospital is
and asked if he could call them when he gets a phone signal. Ron got out of the truck with his friend Johnny and looked at me. He said, “I will do you something better, I will carry her to the hospital, I know right where it is.” About 5 guys put me in the cab of his truck. Before Ron got back into the truck, he said,
“Before we do anything else, we are going to have a word of prayer.” I was so relieved! About an hour later, we arrived to the hospital. Two nurses came running out and put me in a wheel chair, and the into triage. They got the boot off my foot, and took me for x-rays. Doctor came in and said my ankle is broken. He said they could put a splint on me, give me pain meds and send me home. He said I would need surgery to put a plate and screws where the break is due to torn ligaments and tendons as well. He then chuckled and said that although he is the attending physician, he is also an orthopedic surgeon and does this kind of surgery all the time. He said if I want to have the surgery, he could order for me to get ready for surgery. I said, ok then, let’s have surgery. The doctor left and then returned with all the paperwork about surgery and asked me if I needed him to tell me all the awful stuff that can happen with this type of surgery, during the surgery, etc. I just looked and him and said that would not be necessary. He smiled and then asked if I wouldn't mind saying a prayer before we got started. We prayed. (precious!) I was put on an ekg, blood work and lungs were checked. I went into surgery just a bit before 3pm, out by 430pm. In a room 15 minutes
later, and my dinner was in front of me just a bit before 5pm.

I’ve been out of work going on two weeks. Been dealing with the doctor saying I can return to work, light duty, employer having to approve my return. I am also dealing with the fact that employer has a policy about working a part time job if I am unable to work my full time job. I just got a job teaching ESL classes. I am concerned about running out of my vacation and sick leave. It’s all up in the air.

I been doing a lot. Stopped taking the narcotic pain meds so that I can drive. I would like to return to FT job before all my time runs out, but, if I can’t, I’d at least like to be able to work my PT job. My PT job is only 2 nights a week, 2 hours each day. And I LOVE this job!

Needless to say, my life has changed some.

My 'excitement' is that last night "I felt the earth move under my feet" (really!)Earthquake rattles New England
Hubby and I were watching tv, when after a few seconds of a rumble/shaking and Penny starting to 'grumble' ,it clicked what was happening, and we looked at one another at the same time.We both said :Was that an earthquake"?
It lasted about 10 seconds here then slowly faded; rattling the flue in our wood stove pipe.
There was one a few years ago in VT ;hubby felt it in NH , but I didn't feel here.
Before that was about 30 years ago that got our attention too; shaking the ground under my feet (I was in the grocery store parking lot), and hubby said it rattled the windows and pics on the wall.
I would not want to experience a BIG one

I am familiar with some immune problems as I have them myself...not Lupus, but other things...sounds like there are a lot of drs allready in place to help.

Hello everyone. No earthquakes here - just a cold front blowing in at about 35 mph. Regardless, we're still planning a small trip to our wildlife refuge tomorrow with my mother. We'll go out to eat afterwards and hopefully have a great time.

Sister Gail, it's nice to hear from you. I'm happy that your earthquake was the non-destructive type.

Sunsong, things could have been much worse, so I give thanks that your injuries were minor. Regardless, you will be in my prayers.

Hi Tom, sounds like good news to me about your wife, praise the Lord.

Sunsong, it sounds like the Lord was with you the entire time, He is so faithful, I am so glad that nothing worse happened to you.

Wow, Gail, as you probably know, New Zealand is noted for earthquakes, I had my first initiation the second day I was here, it registered 4.5 on the scale, sort of made me nervous,:o but no one else was, I guess I best get used to them, we have them in Washington State, but, I only felt one the entire time I lived there.
It is good to see you by the way.

Hi Angelwind, I know were Paso Robles is, we stopped there on our Amtrak trip, I was born in Santa Barbara. I can sure understand immune disorders as well, I do not have Lupus, but, have things that a comprimised immune system does not help.

Thanks Dave...today is quieter, I did some in town errands, now for sit time. Eric will be home shortly so we will visit and figure out what to do next. Not a lot, because I am tired today...it is wonderful to have a change of scenery.
