Actually, it wasn't so bad in the shade until I was out for an hour. I have two tomato plants, looking sickly so I watered those myself. My friend, Pat, stopped by and we sat out there and chatted. When I came in, there was a message from another friend that she was stopping by. She just left. If I get more than one visit, it's usually on Thursday.
Sounds like a nice day :)

Praying for your success, Dave.

Shirley, the sun was indeed hot, but in the shade of the trees, there's was a breeze going. I still benefited from the sunshine. :)

Gail, how blessed are you to have a hubby who gardens and cooks.:yum:

I bet you did....we get too much sun here tho...I really like fog if I can be in some. :D

In the summer I avoid direct exposure with our cancer history.

Praying for your needed rain, but hopefully no flash flooding

I expect you will feel better with that in place, Shirley

My day has been relaxing; we just got back from our walk and had our prayer time.
Hubby made his own spaghetti sauce today with his garden tomatoes, so we will be indulging in pasta tonight :yum:

Praise God for all His blessings

Your hubby is very handy to have around...mine used to do some barbequing...but he has not done that in a long time.

I am sitting under the fans.

Blessed I AM
He has been cooking for years and loves it; generally if he cooks...I clean up (gladly) ;)
When he was working, he just cooked on the weekends; now retired, he does most of it (by his choice).
We both work the garden, and he helps with household chores if needed, though I do most of those.
On the other hand.... I love to putter, and even stack wood.
We make a good team.... married 39 years in October :D

This does sound like a lovely day for you....we tried growing tomatoes, it was either too cold or too hot...not worth the trouble to try again...I like them, but cannot eat much of a tomatoe...I cannot digest them well.

That is awesome Dave  You will feel so much better over time!
Perhaps the $ you save can be spent on special celebrations out with your beloved Mary

:)

We never know, what tomorrow has in store
but, we can have faith that it is to our 'profit'
~that we will not, be made bankrupt :)

I did not realize you smoked Dave....thumbsup for trying to quit.

Oh really ?
It is something, that I, have made no secret of [being a nicotine-addict ?]

The BIG 'thing', is that I no-longer need tobacco
and, I can now avoid it's harmful 'also-runs'
[tar, gases, metals, and toxic chemicals]

This plastic 'mock cigarette', engages and satisfies, all, of my 'habit'
and will 'cost' me, only @half, 'the spend' I made upon tobacco
now, that I own the 'hardware'

Do I wish I hadn't begun smoking ? Yes, of-course!
and as Gail mentions [above]
~there are, [and, have been] so-many better things, to spend that money upon

Thank you Ladies

We have a wireless alarm system installed...I will probably set off the alrm by mistake a few times before I really get the hang of living with it...but our neighbors are installing a system too. I plan to have my doors closed and armed while I am here everyday alone...I also have a small remote to keep at hand.

I am very tired and nervous...we had a down pour for about 40 minutes, thunder and lightning...at least the grown got sort of a drink.

Hi Shirley

I have been following posts above... and have awaited 'an opportunity'
to be able to add something 'useful', to the matter being discussed

Everything, that 'happens to us' [individually]
~everyone we meet
~everything we 'witness'
leaves it's impression upon us...
They 'adjust' our awareness ~teaches us lessons

We cannot 'NOT see them'
nor, can we 'disregard them'

It is in our nature... to adjust /adapt to changing circumstances
~to react /become ready..... to SURVIVE similar
We cannot help it, [?]
our reactions are 'instinctive' [pre-programmed]
The more experience we have 'laid-down'...
the more OPTIONS [possibilities, for answers] are then available, to us, for each circumstance

Example: if you have, 'a hole in the roof'
~then YOU KNOW
Rain, birds, vermin, other pests can get in... ~that Heat can get out
and, that it must be closed/ repaired....
You WILL... find the means to close /repair the 'vulnerability'

Yes, we ALWAYS become wiser... after an event
and, we ARE able to CHOOSE....
whether to, allow, or deny, any repeat of that event

Everything CHANGES.... and we .... ADAPT accordingly

Ecclesiates 3
Serenity Prayer [Reinhold Nieburg]

truely spoken Dave....I have been working thru verses in Habakkuk this morning....good stuff when life gets perplexing and complex.

God is Holy and He does control the providences of men for His purposes...I belong to Him so He is working for my good in all things, even teaching me to humbly understand this about His ways. He is my refuge and I am safe in Christ.

My [personal] experience, of alarm systems [from past times in Bristol]
is that neighbours, tend to ignore alarms going-off in the area
ie: beyond, being annoyed by them

When our's went off [internal batteries went 'low']
they queued to complain [later]
BUT!!!... nobody, called police [to investigate]

Thanks to the dogs that we kept ['six' German Shepherds]
our's was one, of the two, or three houses in our street
[out of fifty [?] (many of those, were also alarmed)] that were, never burgled

The neighbourhood watch scheme, is,
the most practical weapon against such crime [nosey-neighbours, can be a boon]
It is, to everyone's advantage
~to look after each other's property in the absence of the neighbour
Report suspicious persons /behaviour.... far better to say sorry...than be sorry [?]

If you're like me, you will never lose the heightened awareness, but the anxiety should subside with time. I look to see who in behind me in the store line. If I'm uncomfortable, I won't leave right away. Just a couple days ago, I heard voices, so I turned to look, to be sure they weren't following me. Dave's right, God made us to be resilient. But, no longer are we of the mindset of crime happens to the other person, not us.

Yes, I've noticed that of car alarms. We all assume that someone has set of their car alarm by accident. But, home alarms notify the authorities automatically, don't they? I don't have one, but a sticker on my window says I do.

There ARE those alarms
that are rigged to, landline connections to the local monitoring station
Police, can be informed [usually, for an 'annual fee'] Not Cheap
Accessible/ unprotected phonelines CAN be cut /create a fault online
[defeat the connection]

However, most household-alarms, are there to deter thieves, by alerting residents and neighbours
that an unlawful entry is being attempted /in-process
In which case, it requires investigation ~or, [again] the alarm is USELESS

Minding one's own business / it isn't our alarm /complacency
works only, to the benefit of the criminal
So, make a note of models/colour/ registration numbers of strange vehicles [parked-up] in the area
and, if an event has taken-place ~REPORT IT QUICKLY

Marking your property with an invisible marker [postcode and name]
such, that it becomes visible under ultra-violet light, can help with, property recovery
as can, your keeping a note, of MODEL /SERIAL NUMBERS of valuable items* [on receipts]
*readily saleable household items

There are ways, to make things LESS EASY for such persons
Although, most will, in some way reduce your 'privacy' ... [communication]
People, became sociable creatures [in the first place] for-protection [?]

Hmmmm....this system has its own 24 hour operators who will call the police...it does not depend upon neighbors...many are not here during the day anyway.

I got in and out successfully again no false alarms....yeah!!!!!
