And once again, anyone who still believes that Covid 19 came from a street market based on a random mutation that suddenly made it viable in humans shouldn't be allowed to drive, operate heavy machinery, or handle sharp objects.

You guys are living in a delusional conspiracy bubble regarding this issue. The global consensus remains market origins not lab theory and raccoon dogs are considered the intermediary species between bats and humans.


Researchers all around the world got the vaccine that Trump initially thought unnecessary working. For him to now claim credit for curing COVID is laughable.

I get why people want to blame mad scientists in some lab nearby, especially if the scientists were Chinese. Also, the ineptitude of the Chinese government in trying to cover up info that would exonerate them was a part of this and immediately raised the suspicions of paranoid spy types, including the German BND and the Former head of the British MI6. But these guys are not scientists, they use scientists to reinforce opinions held for other reasons and they filter out information that does not fit their wider agendas.

Re. The science:
Wikipedia - the world's view by consensus, says zoonotic market origin. Covid-19 is similar to previous outbreaks that can be traced back to animals and the alternative theories do not carry scientific weight.


Britannica - the view by the experts - argues the coronavirus family dates back to 2002, and the various relatives of covid19 took a route from bats to humans. Covid-19 being only the latest version of a long line of examples as Wikipedia agrees. It favors the zoonotic origins theory also.

Innumerable scientific papers, some of which I have cited here, all point to the market origins theory as the most probable discussion. There is an open-endedness about the discussion as scientists disagree on the intermediary species likely to have passed COVID from bats to humans, although raccoon dogs now look the most likely candidate.

But the real reason we are still talking about this is the politicization of the issue by Trump. It has become a badge of tribal loyalty to sign up to the lab theory for Republicans - very few of them have looked at the evidence.

The new building was used after 2018, so a full year before the COVID-19 outbreak. I do not know if there was an older, closer building, but it was not the main facility at the time of the outbreak.

I was conscious that at the very beginning of Covid-19 there was also debate amongst scientists and regulators as to the safety of gain-of-function research. Gain-of-function research - Wikipedia
I would argue that people further away from the science are more likely to see the real risks of this activity but are less likely to see the benefit of the science gained from it.

A forthcoming paper from the virologist at the heart of the lab leak theory indicates that there were no bat-viruses directly related to COVID-19 in the Wuhan lab. 233 sequences were surveyed.


Also a foreign scientist (Aussie) who actually worked in the lab in 2019 cannot corroborate the wild accusations being made in current US government literature on this. She describes a very safe containment regime.
