• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At what age did you start giving your kids children's vitamins? What kind/brand do you give them?

I remember I always got Flintstone's vitamins when I was a kid, but I doubt they still have those since they don't really show The Flintstones on tv anymore.

I guess maybe they have Dora vitamins now?

I think they still have flinstones and dinosaurs and every othe imaginable kind!

I asked my ped and she said I could give two childrens vitamins a week at 2 if I wanted, we waited for DS till he could have one a day, actually we waited till I needed mine while pregnant, so that we reminded each other.

We use a generic brand from BJs (wharehouse club) it had less sugar than the name brand and had the same 'stuff'. But we might switch to a melaleuca brand, supposed to be absorbed better, and for the price it had better be!

I gave mine vitamins until they climbed up into the cabinet, and finished the bottle between the 2 of them (they were 5 and 3) After they got their stomachs pumped and spent the night in the hospital, I realized that they ate a varied diet, and were not going to suffer from any deficiencies.

I give Andie vitamins (Sponge Bob is the one of choice right now), just because she's always been a picky eater...I started probably around 2 1/2...just gives me peace of mind, when a day goes by & all she's had to eat is mac & cheese, or a PB&J sandwich, I know she's getting at least SOME nutrition!

We just had our 3-yr-old appt. and our ped. said that as long as they eat fruits and veggies well that you don't need to give vitamins. Our kids are great, non-picky eaters so we have never given vitamins. The ped. said to use Flintstones chewables if we felt like we needed to. I'm sure any children's chewable would be fine.

Yeah, I went to the drug store this evening and found that they have several kinds now. I thought they would've died out by now.

I picked up the "Picky Eater" Flintstone vitamins.

(altho I DID catch myself at first thinking "Wow! They MAKE those??" )
Yup.

There's a vitamin type for all kids

- those who don't eat fruits & veggies
- Those who don't eat meat
- Those who don't eat balanced meals
- And those who are just picky here and there (like my kid)

Can I have a brand name?

The reason I pop flintstones like mad, is because no matter what time of day I swollow a pill, or ho wmuch I have eatne, it pretty much immediately comes back up. my OB basically told me it was my fault, not the pills, and didn't swithc my perscriptin. I find if I crush them up in a smoothie or applesause, I dont puke as often, I thikn it might jsut be the pill form.

Yeah or you could take flintstones, but then also make sure you get your iron, calcium and folic acid from something else. A lot of cereals are iron fortified, and some of them have a lot of folic acid too. Put milk on that cereal and you're good to go. ;) I always got generic prenatal but then I didn't have any problems.... you are at week 15 so soon it should clear up and then you can take the prenatals without getting sick probably.... hmmm who knows!

Yeah. Lets see how much folic acid and iron flintstones ahs (per 2 vitamins!)

Folic Acid: 800 mcg (for two vitamins)

(For women trying to become pregnant and to prevent birth defects: Take 800 mcg a day. Because a considerable amount of fetal development will have occured before a pregancy test registers as positive, it's a good idea to start taking your folate supplement at least three months before you start trying to get pregnant. from http://www.wholehealthmd.com/refshelf/substances_view/1,1525,887,00.html I jsut googled "folic Acid for Adults")

Iron: 36 mg

(Iron
What it's good for: Making hemoglobin in blood and myoglobin in muscle, which supply oxygen to cells.
Where you get it: Meat, fish, poultry, eggs, whole and enriched grains, and green leafy vegetables.
RDA: Between 10 to 12 mg for men and 12 to 15 mg for women.
Watch out: Iron supplements even in small amounts can be toxic to young children. Keep iron and multis with iron out of reach.

from http://www.foodfit.com/misc/encyclopedia.html)

And on top of our regular balanced diets, I hope that is enough folic acid. Hmmm.

Here is what it says Folate is in:
Where you get it: Green leafy vegetables, dried beans, liver, poultry, fortified cereals, oranges and nuts.

haha. I eat so pretty much all of that except for liver and poultry. Well, I eat poultry on occasion, but not enough to get tons of folic acid.

mmm. I want nuts really really bad now.

The foodfit site is realyl really interesting! I am now measureing up all the vitamins in flintstones to everything. haha.

So Iron: good with flintstones and balanced diet:
Calcium: I drink like a half gallon of milk a day, so I think I may be fine! mmm. milk. cereal. mm. I cant eat now tho! I am tring to make a romantic dinner and I dont want to get full!
Folic Acid: good with flintstones and a balanced diet!

But maybe my chewable prenatals will taste better. These are kinda chalky. but, I guess all chewables are. I am not much of a pill person. ~_~

Sorry for rambleing on about vitamins! This site just got me all interested!!

there are tons of brands of chewable, I took some wildberry flavored ones when I was pregnant with DS and DD, this time I take orangeish flavored ones caled precare.

Sounds to me like you need a new Doc. Telling you there is nothing to be done is rather rude. Switch fast to save loot.
