This is more than just sandwiches.

I support people who give services and resources I want and need. I support them by buying what I want and need. I'm not supporting their ideas or convictions. If anything, I'm supporting their ability to provide what I seek. That's how the system works.

If Christians want to support only those who adhere to a certain set of convictions, then they should be consistent and buy what they seek from only those. I'm not buying the virtue claim of those who are upset. Where do you buy your gas? What unholy nonsense is that company involved in? What's the moral stance of your milk producer? Hmm. Who knows? Who cares? No one. But now, Chik fil-a is a sell-out. It's too selective to be taken seriously. Tempest in a tea cup.

Back in realityland...

Chick-fil-A tried to repair its image as being homophobe-friendly by deciding to dedicate its 2020 charity policy to causes that feed the hungry, help the homeless, and promote education. Causes that presumably no one could complain about.

Huckabee and other anti-gay hate groups called fowl because Chick-fil-A was not being anti-gay enough for them.

Already weeks ago, because of the criticism, Chik-fil-A has caved to anti-gay hate groups and backed away from even the appearance of shunning anti-gay groups.

Chick-fil-A Won't Entirely Rule Out Donating to Anti-LGBTQ Charities Again
"No organization will be excluded from future consideration—faith-based or non-faith-based," the company told VICE.

Chick-fil-A says it will now focus its charitable efforts in three areas: education, homelessness, and hunger. But when asked more specifically, it did not go so far as to say that it will no longer donate to organizations that oppose LGBTQ rights.

How dare those organizations treat everybody as equal!

It's not as if the United States of America was originally founded upon the ideals of freedom, liberty and justice for all. And it's not as if LGBT American citizens are worthy of the same civil rights and equality that are guaranteed to straight American citizens either. In fact, LGBT American citizens should be denied civil rights and equality because there are disgruntled conservative Christians who don't approve of the sexual orientation and personal lifestyle of LGBT people. Where is it stated in the Constitution that conservative Christians have that right, by the way? I would like to read that.

(In case it's not obvious, I was being facetious in my above statement)

Just imagine if the shoe was on the other foot for these conservative Christians and they were treated like second class citizens in this country when they are guaranteed freedom, liberty and justice. Just imagine if these Christians began to reap what they have sown and got a taste of their own medicine.

Imagine the gnashing of teeth by these angry Christians if they were ever denied their civil rights and equality. And it wouldn't stop there, they could be denied service in a public business, denied housing, denied medical care, denied insurance, denied the right to marry, denied the chance to adopt children, denied employee benefits, denied employment, harassed at work or fired for being a Christian. And all of this would happen to them solely based on the fact that they are conservative Christians. I think we can imagine the shrill cries of persecution that would permeate everywhere if that happened to them.

This is the issue when people start having the expectations that businesses should have to reflect some sort of moral compass that aligns with their own, rather than simply provide a good/service people want to purchase.

I don't see why Christians are so upset about this, quite frankly. This is the "you made your bed, now you must lie in it" scenario coming to fruition.

Years of boycotting stores in order to pressure businesses to conform to their personal views has set the precedent for this sort of thing to happen. They can't be mad about the fact that they happened to lose one battle in the "boycott game".

Let's look at their track record over the past 15 years.
JC Penney - Christians organized a large boycott to hurt their business because of their partnership with Ellen.

Lowe's - Christians organized a boycott against them because they ran ads during a TLC show called "All American Muslim"

Disney - Christians have orchestrated 3 boycotts against them over the past 15 years for a perceived "gay agenda"

Starbucks - ...same as Disney

Starbucks - again, this time for saying "Happy Holiday" instead of "Merry Christmas" (Costco & K-mart both had one for this reason as well)

ABC - for showing an episode of the Muppets that delved into the topic of drugs

Target - for bathroom policies and an ad depicting a lesbian couple

...yet, the opposite side plays the same game, and the pressure actually works, and now Huckabee wants to play the victim card and claim the people behind it are a "anti-Christian hate group"...gimme a break. By that standard, everyone from the Christian camp who partook in any of the above listed boycotts are part of hate groups as well...is that really the standard he wants to set??? ...because if so, his team's going to come out looking much worse than the liberals on this one.

Is he mad about the fact they're using public pressure...or is he just mad because it worked? (unlike most of the aforementioned boycotts which were largely a swing & a miss)

So ,the chicken place rather feed kids, instead of donating to two Christian groups. And this is bad. Why? Also , if Christians seem okay with the immoral behavior of Trump. And defend every bad thing Trump does. Why should people be concerned about gay people, and their rights.I could see why Chick-fil-a would move on.

A poster will start eating at this restaurant again since it has finally stopped its anti-gay rhetoric.
Which anti gay rhetoric is that?

That would be a question for @Hammster . But from what I understand, the intent is that by mocking an elected official, their supporters could become offended because the elected official represents them in some capacity. So I figure that it is okay to attack the policies. But don't mock the person.

If Huckabee is an "anti-gay hate group" does that mean he hates anti-gays?

Which anti gay rhetoric is that?

It's most associated with the chairman and CEO of the company Dan Cathy (the company is still largely owned by the Cathy family)

I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,’ and I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is about,”

And millions of dollars of corporate donations to anti-marriage-equality groups in the early 2000s (including one group founded by then Chick-fil-A vice-president Donald Cathy).

The company has tried to fly more under the radar in the 2010s, and try to focus on selling chicken sandwiches and not arouse controversy with its corporate giving. Dan Cathy said it was "a mistake" to "support political or social agendas" with its charitable giving.

Perversely, it is the religious right that is demanding that the restaurant stand for something it no longer wants to publicly stand for.
