I dont think God is cold hearted towards us, its just that I dont think he really cares to go out of his way to bless us with earthly things, since thats not what God considers important.
Who's to say that God's giving us an "earthly thing" will not teach us a higher lesson? I think through many of my successes...valedictorian in high school, for example... I learned that we can indeed achieve great things with God's help, what it means to give all glory to Him, how to be thankful, and other lessons.
Did God have to work it out so I was valedictorian? Nope. Did He do it, though? Yep, and I have the medal and videotape of my speech to remember it by.
God gave us the Ultimate Gift in Christ. Why, then, would He refuse to give us the lesser gifts, when it will glorify Him more?
