Character or Plot driven story?

Both. I think they're both very important, but I focus more on the character than the plot. I'm more interested in the study of human nature and I think it has more lasting impact on the reader.

The plot is supposed to "move" because and by the characters' decisions and reactions, right? Doesn't it then make every story "character driven"?
At least something beyond the characters' powers is what moves the plot completely. I believe this known as Deus Ex Machina. It was the way they resolved the endings at most ancient greek plays.

i think i focus on the character more at the moment then then plot but the plot will be more installed in the story when i edit what i have written.

you can have pages after pages of actions and intrigues without any character development or in-depth characterization. I think character driven stories can be easily picked out..

True - I think it's so important to have a good, strong (if not likeable) lead character, an interesting plot is nice too, and helps to bring OUT the character, but I really think the characters are more important than the story told.

I think you need your characters first, then they take off with the story...but this is a personal motivation and different with each writer, don't you think?

I try to do both but I'm much better with characters than plot.

I mainly focus on the plot, but I make the characters the focal points of the plot.

I'm a very character driven person,to the point where the plot becomes almost secondary at times, but this is mainly because my plots are so wild and out there that most people don't really understand them, but they get the comedy.

I do both - I really enjoy developing character in the midst of an exciting plot. My favorite stories are those where the dialogue, setting, plot and character development are intermixed.

I think that in some cases the character drives the plot and sometimes the plot drives the chatacter...or in mine at least.

I think its both plot and character. I think there are times where the character will realy bring out the depth of the story, and times when the plot brings and gives essence to the character.
