Have you ever believed something and had your mind changed by evidence? If so what?

If you have beliefs what evidence could theoretically be given to change your mind?

I used to be a creationist, then I was no longer able to deny the evidence, and became a realist.

I was never a creationist. I don't think the Noah's Ark myth was ever taught to strongly at the churches I grew up with. Nor Adam and Eve for that matter either. Eventually evidence changed my mind too.

And it is not a choice. I have a brain. If God gave it to me he gave it to me to think with. Once all of the evidence was examined my faith dwindled away to nothing. I could not force myself to believe.

I used to think that science was insurmountable and a perfect practice, but as I learned more about it scientists changed from being intellectual messiahs to people doing their best to find answers.

I was 5 or 6 when I had that view of scientists, though; it slowly eroded away over time as my own knowledge and experience increased.

One of my beliefs in the past was that all workplaces were professional, and by professional I mean following routines spot on with close to 100% efficiency (only having less due to contact with unorganized people, such as customers).

Boy was I wrong. The more I see the more I realize that 'most no workplace have a good efficiency, since most workplaces branch out from a practice without efficiency in mind (this is especially true for state operations, such as healthcare, tax and law management etc.).

This eventually led me to the conclusion that the same is for people, which eased my mind about myself.

I used to think all Christians were self righteous prigs. Now that I have joined their number, I no longer think that, although some of them undoubtedly fit the description.

Yes, it is the Christianity.

Do you like to have a review on any of the so-called evidence? I will try not to disappoint you. I do think I am pretty realistic.

If one was a Young Earth Creationist one would only need to look at the Green River Fm varve deposits or simply walk outside and look at rocks to be convinced otherwise.

How does one remain a Young Earth Creationist in light of this:

Can God create pumice ex nihilo without being deceptive? or a warm loaf of raisin bread?

Yes, but why create an Earth that looks old? There is no reason. Worse yet an Earth where all of the evidence is in concordance that life evolved and that the Earth is old, not just with one age, but with each date-able rock giving a date that is in agreement with the theory. That goes beyond an "embedded age" that would be an example of lying to people. Even when I was a Christian I did not believe in a God that told lies. That was why I had no problem accepting science. The Bible is very often anything but literal. Why take obvious myths as being literally true?

Thank you.

No further questions.

Well I have got a question. Why would God deliberately try to deceive us, by planting evidence all over the place that the Earth is very old, if it is only 6,000 years old?

I used to believe that (at least some) UFOs were aliens, and that psychic phenomena were real.

It is not deceiving. It is that we do not understand. There is a very very critical difference between the two.

What you said can be EASILY explained by a theory which we do not understand yet.

I had a very similar experience first with 'religion', and later on in life with 'science'. We're all just humans groping around in the dark, looking for answers. :)

No, you need to read the whole answer. Even when I was a Christian I did not believe in a dishonest God. It seems that you have no problem doing so.

Sadly you break the Ten Commandments by making a false idol out of the KJV Bible. It is also extremely ironic.
