To clarify what I said earlier, the "503 -- Server is temporarily unavailable" error is a different error from the "Database needs prayer" error that came up with UserCP calls and some other functions. The solution I gave supposedly works for instances of the 503 error message -- it did for me, and for the people I got it from. I was passing that along in this thread because it claims to be a server error similar to the ones Pauler and his crew have been troubleshooting, though in fact it's an error on the member's own computer. It's something quite different from what they fixed.

How about removing the display of blessings count on each post in the threads and making it available only on the person's profile should someone wish to see it?
I don't think many people want to see how many blessings someone has on each post they make.

Hm... I had several billion blessings in my savings account. That's not the reason why I'm here though or the reason why I'm staying, even if it is not facilitated again. Christian Forums has been an incredible blessing to me, and it's not something I'm willing to forsake that easily.

I agree but I spend less adn less time here3 as so much has changed fundamentily in this site. The arcade went down and noone seemed to know if it would come back so now I have a paid service thus no need for that. I once had a pet but that was changed so now I no longer use that feature. Blessings are meaningless at this point as is reputation, they need overhauled or made to mean something. This site has evcolved and not always for the better. While coding may have been a headache it did allow some unique features. Each of these things were things that people liked and drew them here. While it may not seem important to some it is to many that were once here and no longer are. Since they took the numbers down and who was on I dont know but I do know that almost all sectiomns are very slow compared to what it once was

Forgive me if I offend in you in any way but.. I have owned a vbulletin(forum software used for this website) operated website before and it is hard to keep the forum running smooth and clean of bugs, while adding features, all while new members are flooding in. I think the staff on this website has done a great job in fixing some of the issues we have had. I personally thank you for your hard work.

The 503 error is related to the bbthread_lastview cookie, if you can delete that separate cookie you don't have to reenter your password and can go ahead and click on the thread that gave you the 503 error and it should then load. I think their server is supposed to use that cookie to store your threads viewed stamp and gets corrupted somehow.

From what I gather from tech friends, it doesn't seem like the database is very stable. Perhaps it would be best to stabilize the database before worrying about features.

Also, will the site ever be updated to the latest VB? It's a lot more secure and easy to use. It has been working very well on the site I admin and we've never had any security threats.

if you are talking about vb4, it has been the worst version out yet and issues are still being ironed out on the stock version. from what i hear, it wont even be stable and able to support many plugins until 4.1. CF is perhaps the most highly modified board that i know in existance. vb4 and all the CF modifications equals a really bad mix.

i am sorry to hear this and know that many features that were once available are being worked on so they can be more long term features on the site and not up today and gone tomorrow. we try to troubleshoot as many scenarios with the different "heavy" plugins that use a lot of resources so that should a dos attack happens (which on this site happens semi-regularly), it doesnt cause a domino effect on the servers causing ram to swap and then crashing the site. we will try to get them back as soon as we are able to do so.

blessings - we have taken the tally of blessings off the top right corner of every page b/c it is so taxing on the server. by removing it, we have taken significant time off individual page loads. you can still see your blessings accumulated under your profile page under the "statistics" tab.

i have been monitoring the changes made, and it is making a significant difference in server performance and overall search performance. we are continuing to make improvements in the performance in the site. the search function is still being worked on as this is also a major reason why the site has had such instability. we hope to either be able to effectively offload that feature so that our servers will not be dragged down or optimize it to a point where there will be more stability.

thanks for your patience. we are hoping to make your experience here on CF a more enjoyable one.

Hello, Are we no longer able to gift blessings to other members, or bank them and earn interest until we ready to gift them, or even earn interest on current savings? None of these things seem to be working for me anymore.

Yes, I have. When I change my options and click Save Changes, I get a blank page (nothing at all on it - no confirmation that options were changed) at this URL: http://www.christianforums.com/profile.php?do=updateoptions

I don't know how often people try to change their options, but others are having the problem. Note threads in Questions About CF here:
