Changes on CF

as you may have noticed some features disappeared and came back.

jobs - this feature has been buggy and caused some of the downtime that we have been having. it was a bit bloated with code so we streamlined it and made it run a little better.

arcade - this area of the site that was being hit by malicious attacks in order to bring CF down. the attacks were successful some of the time, but we have made adjustments to make it more secure and run a bit quicker.

blessings - we have taken the tally of blessings off the top right corner of every page b/c it is so taxing on the server. by removing it, we have taken significant time off individual page loads. you can still see your blessings accumulated under your profile page under the "statistics" tab.

i have been monitoring the changes made, and it is making a significant difference in server performance and overall search performance. we are continuing to make improvements in the performance in the site. the search function is still being worked on as this is also a major reason why the site has had such instability. we hope to either be able to effectively offload that feature so that our servers will not be dragged down or optimize it to a point where there will be more stability.

as much as i like those things, if they are causing this many long term problems for the whole site, maybe it's time to scrap them and go back to a basic forum which can be run more easily and smoothly?

it makes more sense to have fewer functions on a board that works exceptionally well, than to have lots of functions that are buggy and affect the working of the entire board.

I like the blessings option, the avatars, the pets, all of these are great features.

From what I gather from tech friends, it doesn't seem like the database is very stable. Perhaps it would be best to stabilize the database before worrying about features.

Also, will the site ever be updated to the latest VB? It's a lot more secure and easy to use. It has been working very well on the site I admin and we've never had any security threats.

Someone just metioned that people are unable to view their profile page. All I get is a database error saying the database needs prayer.

I also cannot access my savings, nor bless people.

For the record, if you have been getting "503" error messages claiming the Server is temporarily unavailable, the actual problem is with your local computer (counterintiutively). To eliminate the problem if it persists, clear your browser cache and delete the CF cookie. Once you've done these, you will then need to log back into CF but should be able to access every page. (How to do this differs with various browsers.)

However, I too have been getting the User CP errors -- frustrating since that's how I normally access CF.

I understand what you are saying, but doing what you said does not fix the problem. Usually, yes. But they already acknowledged working on some areas, so the error messages are expected. I just hope they get everything running normal again. It seems like this site has consistently had problems.

I'm getting the same problem. I tried what you said above. It didn't work.
