  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Even if for some reason I decided to believe this, the biggest hurdle is how many people are in on the 'big lie'. I know astronomers that would really have to be living a 'double life' of sorts. Claiming to be operating a telescope in space, but really they are just lying. Next time I see some of them I will ask them what their REAL job is! Also my wife's friend is an airline pilot. I got a few questions for this guy as well! Crazy how they all keep the secret so well.

Biggest culprit is that Chris Hatfield character who posted all the photos from the ISS on his twitter. Crazy all the effort put in for him to go into hiding, then somehow get taken to the top of the world and dropped back down to make it look like he came from space!

Psalms 104:5: “Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken.”

You do realize that according to what you quoted earthquakes don't exist, yes?

At least from a frighteningly literal interpretation...

Also, just to be wholly accurate: THIS is the famous Earthrise phot from Apollo 8:
NASA-Apollo8-Dec24-Earthrise.jpg

Shot by William Anders in 1968.

Some Earthrise photos are recreations, and could very well have signs of artificial manipulation. This, however, is the one shot from the mission itself.

Dismantle this:

"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so." - Genesis 1:14-15

1 Chronicles 16:30: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable.”

Psalms 93:1: “Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm ...”

Isaiah 45:18: “...who made the earth and fashioned it, and himself fixed it fast...”

Psalms 96:10: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable ...”

Psalms 104:5: “Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken.”

This is a fascinating discussion and what is most fascinating is that he certainly has a point, there it is written above in what I presume you all truly believe is the actual word of God? Then how can you simply dismiss it, is it a mistake? I think the majority of christians will say there are no mistakes in the bible, but that it is a misinterpretation. If it is a misinterpretation, then how can you have trust in any of it because no matter what your religion or belief system, you are interpreting or you are allowing someone else (another human) to interpret for you. I have always found this quite strange. Either you believe that what is written is true, or you don't. To do anything else in my opinion would have to mean you are ignoring the bits you don't like and taking on as truth the bits you do. Do you just interpret until you like it? Do you truly believe that god ordered bears to kill children because they made fun of someone or that there was a donkey who spoke (just to name a couple of absurdities) or is it just an interpretation or metaphor? If it is just an interpretation or metaphor, then you could just as easily take Jesus's death as a metaphor, he didn't really die as it is written, that's my religions interpretation. For the record I follow no religion, I'm just using it as an example. I'd be truly interested in your answers.

Find a Photo of the Earth and post the link.

You can't.

Because there are no photos of something that doesn't exist.

We are living inside a firmament/dome, and the earth is flat and stationary exactly as the bible describes.

What do I win?

It's mythical language. Genesis 1 contains some of the most poetry in the entirety of Genesis.

Further, a set of literary and linguistic correspondences between Creation (Genesis 1) and the Tabernacle (Exodus 25-40) the seven days of creation in Genesis 1 are paired with God’s seven speeches to Moses in Exodus 25-31. Each speech begins 'The Lord spoke to Moses' (Exodus 25:1; 30:11, 16, 22, 34; 31:11, 12) and introduces material which corresponds to the relevant day of creation. Most transparently, in the third speech 30:16-21 there is commanded the construction of the bronze laver. In the Solomonic temple this is called simply the 'sea' and in Genesis it matches the creation of the sea on the third day of creation in Genesis 1:9-11. Thus, I read the Creation story as God constructing God's own Temple, as initiating God's cult. I see this further impressed within the apocalyptic genre which speaks of the destruction or desolation of the Temple as being an undoing of Creation. I think it's very important to pay attention to the fact that just about every single Biblical text we have was written while there was a Temple cult and most likely informed and formed part of the liturgy at the Temple, so the Temple and it's cult can reasonably be conjectured into the biblical texts.

Yes, a lot of people are lying about it. Its not that hard to figure out though, I figured it out. The truth is the truth. If anyone of them came out about it, people would just assume they're joking anyway.

Why is most of the bright part of the Earth facing the moon...?

...because the source of illumination (i.e. the sun) is above and slightly behind the cameraman.

"Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh." - Psalms 60:2

And yet, as you pointed out:
Psalms 104:5: “Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken.”

If you're going ultra-literalist, you need to accept that the earth can shake, yet can never shake. *DIVIDE BY CHEESE ERROR* That's kind of a problem.
