• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There's already a similar thing here: http://www.talkorigins.org/indexcc/index.html

It's not complete yet though. I've seen some creationist claims that aren't addressed. But it's definitely a good starting point.

Best not to reinvent the wheel, I think.
looking through that now. my favourite dry humour so far has to be from J.Meert:

"Radioactive decay at a rate fast enough to permit a young earth would have noticeable consequences. Namely, the extra radiation would have produced enough heat to melt the earth. "

Well there is always this nice thing called strength in numbers. We are facing it all the time (Look what Dr Dino says! Um that is shown falls... Well then look what AIG says! Well that is also shown false... and then keep going through all the creationist **** sites).

Well lets see what I can add...

Chemistry and rethorics, there are probably lots of people better than me when it comes to biology but I'm pretty sure I could add some of my abilities when it comes to rethorics and chemistry.

The difference is that this resource is geared both more towards forums and in education.

Alot of those things are on a level above general forum banter which is why I want something like this.

Well, hopefully my stuff is above general forum banter, so I guess I won't submit.

No your stuff will be the heavy artillery, it should either break them or force them into logical fallacies like: "I don't understand it so it doesn't mean anything".

This is a great idea. I am afraid I could not be of much help creating it though, because of my hectic schedule, but, I would certainly use it A LOT. I am studying the particulars of evolution in my spare time. You will definately want to include Lucaspa, he appears to have an extensive library of info.

Well, I'm afraid I wouldn't be of much help, since most of my talent lies with formal thinking and logic, not actual scientific data (which I have a passing, and generally sufficient, knowledge of).

However, I do have one question/criticism... I dunno about ya'll, but I usually find it somewhat annoying when a Creationist cuts and pastes off a website to "defend" their claims. Such activity on our part could very well look rather... Well, poor. :)

Way above. But I am not sure that that is precisely what Bushido means. Talkorigns articles are often not specific enough to address particular commonly encountered. Your posts ARE specific enough, and with your experience you know what the common attacks on evolution are.

I think that any evolution resource build by people from these forums without your contribution would be a pale shadow of what it could be.

:)

That's exactly what I was trying to say.

Well, my speciality in a lot of these conversations seems to be in providing the context for the howlers that creationists claim are genuine quotes by "evolutionists." I think there are probably a number of these floating around the various evolution sites already so I'm not sure how useful a list of quotes-in-context would be.
