  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in creating an organized think tank out of the minds we have assembled here.

It'd be merely a collaboration of evolutionists here who can answer questions by other evolutionists, post PRATT lists, have an easy reference for links and the like.

Blah, here's what I envision.

Up to 100 megabytes of room on my personal domain name and space
php and MySQL support
Invision Board v1.2 (the latest), with Q/A forums, etc.
Microsoft FrontPage XP, and the ability to use it
Page with reference links to CF and other articles
Commonly used PRATT lists
Pages where members can post whatever information they believe necessary in a hardcoded HTML format
My leetness and ability to collect leet images

My only contribution could really be the webspace and forum installation, as I really am new to the fold. But this could really be an oppurtunity to educate and form a coherent evolutionary force. As well, we could readily educate new evolutionists with a easily referenced source with only the main highlights.

The reason I'm supposing this when we already have things like Talk Origins and the like is because they're very nice, but don't really help in answering the quick questions that people pose in these forums. Basically, it's on a slightly higher level. As well, there are alot of great links in these forums which are way too scattered to do anyone any real good.

Just a thought.

Not a bad idea actually. Doesn't seem to hard to put together since we've already done all the hard work, the thinking. Merely a matter of rumaging thru our posts, organizing it into a coherent manner, and formatting.

I see it being as kind of a TO site but geared more towards message boards. Personally I'd love to have a clip board that I can just copy and paste from instead of having to type up what a scientific theory is every week.

I would suggest that we think of common creationist questions/arguments/strawmen and have an answer/rebuttal/explanation written for it.

For example, it is common for creationists to equate evolution with atheism. There are two ways to respond to that: one from the scientific angle about science being agnostic and so forth and the other being theological, in regards to what you need to accept in order to be saved.

I am happy to write something on that, if you like (although Lucaspa would be better but he is better at everything in regards to this ;))

Section 1-

The THEORY of Evolution, a brief introduction as to what a theory actually is and isn't. How it varies from the layman's defintion of theory. Also how it differs from a hypothesis and law.

Section 2 -

The monkey's uncle. The lineage of human evolution starting at about australopithecine. Somewhere in big bold letters it's important to explain that neanderthals are not our ancestors but more of an uncle/aunt. A picture would probabbly work best.

Not much but it's a start. Can just give a quick, easy to understand summary of the subject then reference to a dedicated research site for supporting evidence.

PS: I hereby declare myself the God of Sarcasm. All that which is witty and slightly offensive in a weird sort of way is created by me.

Spiffy idea!

"The Arthur hath spoken. Therefore it is so"

Lesse...so far we have Evolution does NOT equal Atheism, the meaning of THEORY, Common ancestry (which should also coincide with "Evolution doesn't say we evolved from Monkeys").

I would add more...but I'm tired. The only thing I can think of is the "watch analogy"

If this is something ya'll want to do, then I'll need some help doing it. I can start a framework, but I need to know what to write.

Think of it like this. You tell me what to write, and I write it.
Would you like my FAQ files? You realize I don't re-write the list of transitional fossil series each time, but copy and paste from my personal FAQ files.
