Here is a video describing why Catholics believe what we believe about Mary, providing a ton of Scriptural basis.

It's a very well done video.

Agree with us crazy Catholics or not I hope you guys enjoy the video- if nothing else you will have more insight into why we believe as we do.

God bless!

I saw a historically accurate movie made from a book by one of the survivors of a RC order of nuns set in WWII. The author was heavily involved in the movie's production and interviewed afterwards, testifying to the accuracy of the movie. In it, bad things kept happening to members of the order and the priest who oversaw it. They kept asking why God allowed these things when they were so faithful. But who were they praying to? Every time they moved they established a church and dedicated it to Mary. Every time they were depicted as praying, they prayed "Hail Mary." Where was God in the things that befell them? Ask rather, where was God in their prayers? Only God is to be worshipped and sacrificed to (prayers are spiritual sacrifice).

God often permits bad things to befall His faithful children because by faithfully persevering they become like gold refined in the fire.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but the presupposition behind this statement would seem to be that of the prosperity gospel - that if you are good, then God will bless you with success and comforts in this world and conversely, if you are bad, then God will send calamity and sorrows. Is that essentially what you are saying?

It's like about half of the RC churches are named after the BVM in one form or another. If this account were true wouldn't it be happening much more often and had been going on for a very long time. Also consider this. The two largest and oldest Christian groups ie,. RC & Orthodox venerate the BVM. I don't think this account proves it self to be true by it's own criteria.

Nope. Just that they wondered where was God in all this calamity and had never once called on Him.

See response #8. And just because everyone's doing it doesn't make it right. Nor do I believe the RC to have been founded by Christ but much later. I say this as a former RC headed for the priesthood at the time of my calling out by God.

You act like Catholics NEVER pray to God, and they ONLY ask the intercession of the saints...

Your argument is flawed, as others have pointed out, and has nothing to do with the video I posted.

What movie are you referring too so we can see for our selves how accurate it is that you keep claiming.

I did not and will not watch your video that justifies what God forbids. I have had and heard all the justification and indoctrination in my RC upbringing. And if I routinely and persistently do what God forbids, why will He hear me when I call upon Him in the same manner in which I call upon His creatures?

I did not put forth an argument, only an observation. But here I make a claim: rituals and prayers to dead people who cannot hear you are no substitute for a relationship with the living God.

Why do you say "keep claiming?" I said it once.

I do not recall the name of the movie/documentary. It was on PBS a few months ago and was about an order of nuns from (I believe) England taken prisoner by the Japanese in WWII.

I used the phrase "keep claiming" because you referred to it's accuracy twice in that same post as if that gives that movie more accuracy by mere words alone. If we can't examine your resources we can't count them as valid.

"Keep claiming" still does not apply for 2 in 1 citation. I am only stressing this point because it points to your lack of accuracy. And still I only cited its own claimed accuracy once (perhaps this was not so clear) and then that the author verified its accuracy.

The original point remains valid: one ought not pray to Mary and then blame God for a lack of an answer. Call on God alone. Expect an answer. Then one can legitimately blame God or otherwise understand His failure or delay in answering.

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Fine. But if you refuse to watch the video, get off of the thread about the video. You are derailing it.

jackmt has derailed this thread... But I am interested in what you guys think specifically about this video.

I ask that we stop helping him out ;)
