No doubt, but you can see how that passage could be construed.Bastoune said:It's definitely NOT like what the LDS teach!!!![]()
As you can imagine.
It would depend. Are they an honest seeker or dishonest attacker? Based on this, you can probably surmise what my answer would be. However, regardless of that, I don't think the Catechism is worded wrongly and should be rewritten.Christy4Christ said:nyj it is our jobs as Catholics to know how to clear these things up when they are brought to our attention. Don't you agree?
John 6:60 Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?"nyj said:John 6:60
That was the impression I got from reading your post #9 in this thread, as well as reading the agreement to your comments that said that that paragraph is problematic. Rewriting it would be the only option to avoid this problem as far as I can see.Christy4Christ said:I don't think the catechism needs to be re-written, I never said that.
KC, John 6 wasn't a parable.KC Catholic said:I get it and I understand what the Catechism is saying. My point is that Jesus had to explain the parables - more than once - because the Apostles didn't get it the first time he told them.
Yes, but this was thrown at Christy by an anti-Catholic. They don't want to know the answer. It's a waste of breath for us to explain these things to them.Likewise, we as Catholics and defenders of the faith must make the effort to assist those who have questions or are confused by what the Church is saying. And we must do it with mercy, love and in a humble manner. There are many new to the faith, returning to the faith or contemplating joining the faith and we have to be prepared to answer questions and belie concerns.
Simple as that.

Ad hominem.Christy4Christ said:nyj you seem to have an argumentive nature sometimes.
Neither am I. If you didn't mean what I thought you did, you could've just said so.No one else on this thread is picking apart every word I say.
I already explained what I thought about your comment. To be exact in post # 9 what I said was "I think that part could have been worded differently" Can you see the diffence in saying that and in saying the Catechism needs to be re-written?
For the record: For the most part, my comments were reserved for those who threw this Catechism paragraph in your face in an attempt to trip you up. It is my opinion, after years of defending Catholicism on the internet, that such people do not want an answer, they will not recognize an answer, they do not deserve an answer. I specifically pointed out 2 Peter 1:4 and the St. Thomas Aquinas reference for you (my first two posts), to help you better understand what the Catechism was saying.Christy4Christ said:I am sorry I even brought this up. I will be more cautious what I question from now on.
