  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

You want to eat another human? :yum:

Maybe that'd be the sin of greed? ;)

Actually it seemed to be accepted that if an Israelite city was laid siege to, as punishment from their god, then it's inhabitants would end up eating their own children when they ran out of other food.
It wasn't commanded, or forbidden, but rather a horrific consequence...
Leviticus 26:29 and Deuteronomy 28:53

It seems to me that under the classifications of what is clean and unclean meat, that humans would fall into the unclean classification, and so be forbidden, seeing as we don't chew the cud or have cloven hoofs -but then again we may also not be classed as 'beasts'.
Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14

...but then, when the Israelites were to have fully conquered the promised land their god promised them:
Deuteronomy 12:15
"...thou mayest kill and eat flesh in all thy gates, whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee: the unclean and the clean may eat thereof, as of the roebuck, and as of the hart.
The only other thing I can think of is this:
John 6:53
Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

When I was a lad I became enamoured of the book MOBY DICK and voraciously read everything I could on whaling.

I know there have been a couple of instances of shipwrecked sailors drawing lots then killing and eating the unlucky one so the others could survive.

Eating human flesh purely for survival purposes (viz. the infamous Donner party or the rugby players whose plane crashed in the Andes) is not a sin, particularly if the flesh comes from people who have died of natural causes or by accident.

Now, specific to Christianity, there is the issue of communion a.k.a. the Lord's Supper. Most Protestants hold that the wine and bread symbolize Christ's blood and flesh, while Catholics hold to the doctrine of transsubstantiation (spl?) in which the wine and wafer become the blood and flesh of Christ once consumed.

well...I don't think it's a sin to eat another human, but It's probably a sin to kill them first. but if they were dead and you wanted to eat them...i don't think it's a sin.

this is weird, in acting class today, we were working on improv and stuff, and so our teacher with a student showed us a type of improv acting, and the theme was world hunger and so they are going through this scene where the student was the village cheif and the teacher was a visiter, well because there was no food (world hunger), the chief/student said she had eaten all the children because she was so funny, i found it to be friggin hilarious, hehe

*brian leaves thread now

Hmmm... It seems that it is not sinful to eat humans. What if human remains are eaten by other humans as a delicacy & that the cadaver died lawfully & previously gave permission to be eaten?

I would have thought it sinful to eat a human in a not-for-survival situation but it seems not to be.

Hmmm... aside from mad-cow type disease (?) it seems that there is nothing biblically wrong with eating humans???

I think:

Mark 7:18And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;
Mark 7:19Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

is going to cause some problems for anyone who wants to say that it is sinful in all cases.

Cannibalism is wrong because it requires a dead human in order to make it so. Killing is against God. Now say you came upon a dead body in the middle of the road, and you were hungry. What is your first instinct? To eat the body? No! Your first reactions are disgust, fear, sadness. Cannibalism does not need to be condemned by religion or rationalization, because it is already condemned by human nature. People will not naturally eat other people, and even if they have to it is truly revolting to them (unless them have been brainwashed to think it is okay, as in the instance of tribal societies).
