Can you morally call yourself a Christian if you vote conservative.

Christians should vote for parties that are closer to the values of Christ and the bible. Sadly too many right wing Christians are hung up on gay Marriage and abortion and forget about social justice.
Gay marriage and abortion are both very important topics to a God-believing Christian.
We should be against them...after all, God is.

Actually, not cutting up babies in order to sell off parts of their bodies IS a matter of social justice. And if you think that "Christians should vote for parties that are closer to the values of Christ and the bible (sic)," you're promoting the idea of voting conservative, even if some Christians mistakenly think the Bible supports gay "Marriage" (it doesn't) or abortion.

It would be a much sounder argument, from your POV, to argue that Christians should NOT vote on the basis of their moral stands but, rather, on the basis of non-religious considerations (separation of church and state, equal treatment in law, etc.).

We should but still need to approach them with some common sense and they should not become the primary issues or focus as they seem to be at times.

Religion can be a nasty thing if not practiced correctly.

Seriously i have seen right wing conservative Christians try and use scripture to try and justify them spanking your wife and advocating the death penalty.

I recently saw a programme where fundamentalist Christianity is used in Ghana to discriminate and oppress disabled people.

There was one lady at a so call Christian healing centre that chained disabled people up and prayed for God to heal them and blamed their disabilities on sins. It was like she was still living in the middle ages.

I guess we can find a few people who are way out of the norm, no matter what philosophy is motivating them. That doesn't make for a valid argument against religion, or government, or patriotism, or liberalism, or conservatism, etc.

It doesn't take being "infallible" in order to be correct.

People forget, the bible was written by infalliable men, not God

Jesus was the first liberal. Its just i feel that Christianity has morphed into a right wing group run by people which are only interested in what they can get out of it rather than benefiting mankind in general.

They were fallible, like all of us. That doesn't mean what they wrote was incorrect.

Jesus was the first liberal.
That's amusing, not only because of the claim of being the "first" but also because he was completely non-political and when he did get involved with government, he was scrupulously in favor of obeying, of deferring to the authority of the government.

Consider the possibility that it has morphed into a left wing group run by people who are only interested in what they can get out of it rather than benefitting mankind in general. You've heard of the Clintons, I take it.

Lots of people disagree with you on that point. Don't assume your beliefs are infallible.
Whether I am infallible or not is not the point.
God is infallible.
And it is God Who has said that homosexuality is an abomination, and God Who has said that children are a precious gift.

I don't recall anything in the Bible about spanking your wife. Although I don't see how this fits into the "nasty" list. Some married couples seem to enjoy a little slap and tickle...and it isn't always the wife who is getting spanked.
Nor do I recall any verses that would support chaining up disabled people...what, didn't the lady in Ghana think she could catch a cripple if he tried to run?

However, I can't help but wonder if it isn't a good idea not to let a serial killer continue to breathe...

I'm not aware of any evidence that this was actually done in the Middle Ages...

I say not cause you go against Christs values but it will interesting to see what others think.
In my experience liberal politics tends to go against God's principles. While Conservative principles not so much.
In the secular world of capital hill politics business as usual the lines that at one time very distinctly separated the two parties by their ideological view for America's politic and progress under law are now blended.
They are nominal party members. While their politic, goal, and vision, at least as is represented when it is majority vote in the Hall, are united. Not to the will of the American average to lower income constituency but rather to the Super PAC's and 1% and their $pecial interests.

I agree with this post.
The first I ever heard of anyone chaining up disabled people was in this thread.

You don't have to vote for parties. You can vote for people.

I believe the opposite, after all it has been democrats and liberals who have been working hard to remove God from our society.
Then there is the fact that conservatives give more in money and in hours by volunteering than liberals.

What matters is what God says on the issues you mentioned.

Gay sex- man shall not lay with man as he does with women, it is an abomination.
Abortion- Thou shalt not kill.

So yes, I am "hung up" on those issues.

For that matter, which party presided over every major war the US fought in the twentieth century?

Well Sir, until the Bush's and their illegal wars in the middle-east, historically wars have been started by D's and ended by R's.

Every one should vote the way they believe is right.
I, too, am "hung up" on issues like abortion, and gay marriage.
Especially abortion...over a million innocent babies murdered every year...and why?

They think war is the answer for everything but it isn't.

It is my belief that every war after the War of 1812 was illegal, but I may be wrong. However you may want to take a look at who starts and who ends wars by party affiliation. Until the Bush's illegally waged war in the middle-East, it has been democrats that start and Republicans that have ended wars.
