• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can you fall from being saved?

Oh my! That is one of the clearest, most astoundingly correct sermons I have heard in a long time. Wouldn't it be wonderful if I could find a church like that?

I am beginning to believe there is no such thing, and I will wander all my life with this knowledge that the Good news is truely meant to be the Good news.

Bless you Holo,
naos

There is no such thing as being saved once then falling away and not being saved. I have heard it this way Jesus died one death that means if you confess that you are a sinner repent of your sins, put your trust in Him, and accept his free gift of eternal life you are saved once and for all. Now in the original post the person said there friend went back to his athiestic view on God. There are two possibilities either he was never saved (which I don't think is the case). Or he is just having a lot doubts and questions. What I would do is get your pastor or someone who is strong in his or her faith and have them talk to them. Also pray for that person.

You may be right, but there is still that dependence on the works of man isn't there?

It misses the point of Jesus at all.

I look at Jesus and am astounded that He ever even thought of me, let alone died for me.

I am stunned by that.

Luke 10:39-42
39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." 41 And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."

Who did the Lord commend?

One of my favorite passages in the Bible! I used to be a Martha, always doing, doing, doing. Now, I'm more of a Mary.

I am not so clever. Would you answer directly in simple terms?

Oh, sorry, I was confused you with the godschild. Because you are both the same kind of Crhisitianity. I am sorry I don't read long debating comments since you are practically repeating the same thing over and over.

Fine, if you don't want to respond, that is your choice.
But, I don't see what I wrote as a 'debate'. I was explaining to you how God has worked in my life and the kind of relationship I now have with Him--how is that a debate? If you had actually 'read' what I wrote, instead of assuming you know what I wrote, then you would have seen that. Instead, you choose to 'judge' me on what you 'think' you know about me and close your mind to anything I have to say.
And I'm tired of hearing you refer to "our kind of Christianity" like we aren't "true" Christians.
You know, I've read in other threads where you talk about how you are kind to others. Well, I'm sorry to say, I sure haven't see that kindness shown to many of us on here. Instead, you have judged and put down 'our Christianity' (like 'our' Christianity is different from 'your' Christianity).
You know, I don't doubt your Christianity and your walk with God. We should all live in our lives in obedience to God and what He wants us to do. And you apparently are doing that, as am I.
May God continue to bless you.

I'm not answering for naos, but since I and him share some opinions, I'll let you know what my answer would be:
I'm not lazy, I'm calm

Ooooo, I like that!! I see so many people in the church who live such frantic lives because they are always 'doing'. I used to be like that. God led me to not always be doing and rest in Him. It's soooo much better!

I would be greatly disappointed if I thought you actually didn't understand the applicability of that scripture to the question you had asked me.

It might actually take a great deal more faith in God and His sufficiency, to merely sit at His feet worshipping Him trusting that He will do the works through us, than it takes to run about getting distracted doing work that we think is what He wants.

Not that it really matters to me, but it seems to matter to you, so I'll tell you this. It is nearly, if not totally, impossible for me not to serve either in music, teaching, or even just picking up trash from the parking lot. I can't help myself. God does it. It's none of my business.
