lol I don't have to justify my belief to you. You are welcomed to your opinion

Do you or do you not believe that those who disagree with your belief will be set on fire for trillions of years?

Because it is hard to explain. I think you are assuming that communication equals words but that is not necessarily true. What I do know is that I went from a very comfortable atheism to a follower of Christ in a matter few months.

Communication does not equate words - it equates the transfer of information. What transfer of information occurred?

I am not trying to prove cold fusion nor am I going to write an academic paper about my experience. Also, I am, in no way, trying to convert anyone here. You need to "own" the knowledge in order to believe it and act on it.

Then it is for a select few, and the god you serve treats people unequally while holding them to the same standard. That is unjust.

It actually isn't because they are both non-verifiable unseen personalized ,subjective experience.

Nope. We are going to disagree here. You claim to be a Catholic which means that you believe in the existence of God. Is this a knowledge that you 'own" or simply one that was taught to you and you simply believe it?

Now there is now way anyone can prove that Jesus does communicate to folk. It's guess work. It's faith. Call it what you want.

Your opinion is noted.

I don't believe Blue claims to be a Catholic.

I believe that those who reject God will be for eternity (not just trillions of years) be apart from God in a place called the lake of fire.

I explained this already.

If you do not want to be a Christian then that is your choice and I am not going to argue the finer points of theology from a different foundation than yours. We will only end in a non-ending argument. This is the reason why this website no longer has a general apologetics forum.

Phew, you made me go look. I responded to the OP's post 38 not to Blue. The OP displays a Catholic icon. :)

Ok, but here is the issue, personal psychology is so complex, we can't ascertain objectively whether we are consciously seeking something or not.

Again, I have heard this same thing from other Christians (I did not seek the experience) and that's fine, but the experience is still personal and there is no getting around that.

I agree.

I see. So those who reject your belief system will be in a flaming torment forever. Are you okay with believing in a god who makes Hitler seem like Mickey Mouse?

I explained this already.

No, you didn't. You have said that God spoke to you (and by that you mean communicated without words) and that you became a Christian shortly afterwards. You have told us nothing about the experience, what it entailed, what you believed the meaning to be, whether or not others witnessed it, etc. You obviously offered it as a definite answer the thread's original question, yet the details are as indefinite as possible.

Your opinion is noted. I do not have to justify my belief to you. I have a degree in biblical studies and was once a conservative Christian. I'm comfortable debating (not arguing) the finer points of theology on your own foundation.

Btw, I wasn't here when you had one (that I remember), but I'm pretty certain if Christians could defend the bible, there'd still be a General Apologetics forum. That there's not really is a white flag of surrender on the topic.

I'm not interested in debating.

Well that's no fun. The back-and-forth of ideas is how we've arrived at such a better world than a thousand years ago. Keep your eyes, ears, and mind open and maybe we'll debate/discuss/dialogue sometime =)

Assumptions. The removal of the general apologetics forum had nothing to do with the quality of the defense but because of the inability of each side to carry on a civil discussion.

I'm sure the opportunity will present itself at some point in the future. :)

Why is that not true in other non-Christian forums, such as Creation versus Evolution, or even in Philosophy? I think we all get along pretty well. I haven't seen too many disagreeable non-believers around.

ETA- I did not answer your question. Sorry. I have not evaluated the forums you speak of so I don't have an opinion to offer.

I haven't been here long enough, but I have heard different reasons from different people. If the civil discussion was the entire reason, other areas would have been banned as well, because I have seen some very uncivil discussions in other areas.

The bible is obviously sacred to many Christians, especially those of the fundamentalist flavor and a thorough objective historical analysis of the same, is not meant with open minds.

Just curious, what scriptural teaching / scriptures support that view?

Or the fact that it wasn't easy to monetize, maybe?
