Can true Christians be "Demon possessed"?

arbiter. You believe speaking in tongues is demonic eh?
i tell you no.

Ok firstly theres 2 kinds of tongues.
If a demon possesed person is amid a congregation where they worship and praise god, it will manifest and the person will do wild things. My father told me once that this woman started speaking in uncontrollable tongues in a small group fellowship while they were praising and worshipping god, as when 2 or 3 gather in his name he will be among them. Naturally the demon cannot stand the presence of the almighty god and hence manifested and the woman spoke in uncontrolled tongues.

Another type of tongues is the controllable ones. And the person feels the spirit keenly while speaking in tongues.

Untimately its not for you to decide what is good or bad. If someone tells you that his speaking in tongues is to benefit him with regards to christ then you just gotta believe it as ultimately God will be the judge and god is just and fair.

So speak with god about it and ask him for help on speaking in tongues

I liked all the answers on this post; especially about prayer - a lot of people either grew up accustomed to having prayer as some sort of archaic formality attached to it and found it intimadating. I pretty much now just talk to him like I talk to anybody, including idioms and slangs. lol

I think about the possession issue though -- I think Christians who have backslid are more vulnerable to being possessed than someone who is non-believer, I've heard stories about such a thing happening to Christians. There's also, imho and experiences more to a possession than someone being a raving lunatic - haven't you ever sort of seen "the devil" in someone's eye even though they appeared quite lucid and even "nice" outwardly? A form of malevolence that is rather chilling.

I dont necessarily agree a backslidden believer is more vulnerable than a believer, but overall, I agree with what you say.

Francis Frangipane, said in his book "The Three Battlegrounds" (An excellent, balance book I'd highly recommend) that no one is exempt from demonic activity for this reason: demons dwell in the dark. If a Christian is holding on to darkness in his/her soul, that is a place that a demon can (and has the right) to dwell. Unbelievers have no defense at all.

I've tried talking to God in a more conversational manner, and I've asked him to help me recognize his voice. I think I misunderstood God the other day though--in an embarrassing way...

Also, I really hope I get my anger issues and all that under control soon. I am a Christian, but can I honestly say that people could tell that by the way I live? Well, with the way my temper flies I doubt I could honestly say that.

Any ideas there?

A christian cannot be possesed by a demon
Although a chritian CAN be oppressed or influenced by a demon/demon(s).
I have seen many christians freed from bad spirits that were opressing them

Bad spirits can gain a foothold in our lives when we live in unrepentant sin and also when passed down through the generations of our family. Also from ANY kind of involvement with the occult or new age stuff in your past, even if it was before you were a christian (etc. Yoga, Ouija boards, karate, witchcraft, horoscopes, pshycics, palm reading, reiki, etc...)\
You have the authority in Christ to stamp on snakes and scorpins (meaning these bad spirits) and also to do as Jesus did on earth and "greater things than these."

It is a common lie Satan feeds christians that we cannot be opressed by demons, because you get stuck in these situations that nothing tried can get you out of, only taking authority in Christ and casting these things out or having them cast out. Satan has put a blinder over many people's eyes about these things. And it breaks my heart because the same blinder used to once be over my eyes as well. Also about the power we have to heal, prophecy and many other things, as well as the powerful authority in Christ that we have in general as born again believers. It is stated clearly all through the gospels and acts. The power Jesus gave us throught the annointing and babtism of the holy spirit was not just for his 12 apostles.... WE are his disciples as well. Claim what is yours. The christian life is not meant to be dry. Nor are we to be slaves to our sins. If you want to know for sure if something you are dealing with is of a demonic or spiritual nature but are hesitant to label it as that, try everything else given to you as tools in the bible. Pray, fast, memorize verses, get an accountibility group, etc. And if you still find yourself unable to control this it could be a foothold satan has in your life...not of your spirit..because that belongs to God. But of your soul or your emotions or your flesh or even your mind.

That's great, Faithful :) Remember, it will take time to learn how to discern His voice. Dont be discouraged. Learning is a process.

Also, I really hope I get my anger issues and all that under control soon. I am a Christian, but can I honestly say that people could tell that by the way I live? Well, with the way my temper flies I doubt I could honestly say that.

Yes. The most important thing you need to realize is you cant control your temper. It's you being in control that caused the problem in the first place. What you need to do is give God control of your emotions.

I remember the first time the Lord showed that to me, and it was powerful. I had such anger and unforgiveness toward a family member, but I knew it was wrong. I remember just praying "Lord, I simply cannot love this person. Please love them through me."

Now that's not to say we're to do this as an act of laziness because we arent willing to make the right choices, but when you know you are not in control, just give that control over to God.
