You should come to my church. They are trying to make things "more appealing" to people who think that they are stuffy.

I always thought that worship should be according to God's taste. Not ours!

You thought right. Sadly many of today's churches (read "seeker sensitive" here) have forgotten that very basic fact.

No. Reformed Theology is cessationist.

Not all of us are cessationist, though I don't think that most of us who are continuationists don't share in the Pentecostal excesses and abuses.

And not all Pentecostals have those excesses or abuses. The AG church I go to is very mild in that sense. Im trying to understand why there is such and issue with Reformed and contemporary worship? Are we supposed to teach our childrens hymns with grammer not used in 100 years? Wasnt the organ itself considered a blasphemy back in the day?

Also, what is cessationist?

there are issues over music and instruments in worship .......... the regulative principle is used here :D

I have been to several places where they sang Psalms unnacompanied ........ in The Highlands (Scotland ) hundreds of Church's know nothing else.

The real issue is what type of spirit is it that brings Papists and Protestants together ??? and liberals !!
some would say , "the Spirit of Christ" I am not one bit convinced.

That question alone gave me grave concern , and I left "pentecostalism" mainly over that!

(I'm speaking from my own point of view. I'm not sure what the Reformed view is.)

Contemporary worship is exactly that: something that is tied to and defined by current times. It is more influenced by man-made trends and what's popular now than God's imuttable Truths. It's not like it's best to only sing songs or use a worship style from a certain older time period, it's best to choose the most Biblically based worship-worthy songs or styles from any time period not being influenced by contemporary times, and it's probably good to change it around sometimes. So, I guess it shouldn't be traditional worship or contemporary worship. It should be Biblical worship.

(Also most old hymns blow 99% of any praise music written in the past 30 years out of the water as far as basic musical and lyrical quality goes, and they should because they have lasted. Even as a young kid I realised this. The best praise songs of today might make it into future hymnals and many already have.)

This was a kind of rant I went off on, but maybe some of it is significant.

Don't apologize for stating facts. Our music leader talks about 7-11 songs (seven words repeated 11 times or is it 11 words repeated 7 times??)

So many of today's "Christian" music is poor theologically (I'm happy to name names - but don't want to step on anyone's toes). Don't even get me started on the entire "Jesus is my boyfriend" genre. Or the "man centered" songs as opposed to the "God centered". Listen sometime to the number of times a worship song says "I" as opposed to "You" (meaning God), "God" or "Jesus." That's of course if they even mention God - I've had people tell me their church is singing (for example) Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up." Now that's a fine song, sung by a nice young man with a beautiful voice - but it is about human relationships - not about God.

I like to rant too.
