  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It is sin for us to be covetous (wanting other people's goods) & not sinful for God to be a jealous God because as creater & sustainer of all life, this is the very least He is entitled to. He deserves, demands & expects perfect obedience, this was the law He told Adam. He would have been well within His rights to leave us in our sins & send us all to hell.

However, He didn't. He promised to send Christ, He would have to be born to some people, & since Christ was God, eternal, holy, omniscient, etc. He couldn't be born to people that were just like all the other idolatrous heathens, they had to be a holy, set apart people who demonstrated with their lives the difference between the Creator & the creation. Obviously they sometimes sucked at this, sometimes did ok, but anyway, God chose them out of all the people of earth, could have been someone else, therefore they had to live differently & there were severe consequences for disobedience.

Anyway, God is incapable of sin, so it must not be sin for God to be jealous & therefore He's not a hypocrite, either, since that's sin as well.

God does run a dictatorship, He owns everything & made all things; since He has the power to send people to hell, ya better toe the line & seek forgiveness & protection from God's wrath in Christ :)

Greetings Rachel,

You sound like a very wise young adult. If you are able, please download a FREE copy of E-Sword Bible and commentaries, etc. from:

www.esword.com

You can link the commentaries with the Bible (side by side) and as you read your Bible, you can look over and find what other apologists are saying about a particular verse. It is very handy and besides it has all sorts of other stuff that comes with it that will help you in your Bible studies.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

hi rachel

i also can recommend e-sword. when you don´t lose yourself in it, it is a great tool !

god has many qualities.
in our times we like to only see the good ones that fit us well.
god sais it is because we have itching ears, we raise ourselves preachers that preach only what we want to hear, then afterwards we accuse god for the repercussions of our own arrogance.

but how can we please god if we don´t even know him and make him handy for us, pocket-size, a show, a provider only and not a just judge, entertainment, instead of the allmighty, allpowerfull etc. that the bible authorizes him to be ?

imagine we would have lived a few dozens of years before. war and famine and physical pain would have been something we would have encountered in our societies. if we would have read god´s laws, which are to protect us from our fallen state, we would have embraced them more eagerly.

so worldly riches (and we live in the richest century ever) can have also a downside. we lose grip for the essentials ! to me this only has become clearer after i have been in africa, where i saw what faith and hope poverty produces.

but the quality that surpasses all others, is love, that is beyond doubt :)

you also have to see that in those days people were very wicked and when they worshipped their other gods there was often prostitution involved or even killing of humans.

also a thought that matters: imagine god as the allmighty creator. when he looks at us human beings, there is not so much difference between good and evil people, we are only as ants regarded from his powerful and insightful position. what would you do if you were the master over the ants ? would you allow them to set their own rules, rules that would harm them ? maybe the ants would plan things and only you could see from your giant perspective what they really needed....

and i would like to encourage you to keep on asking until gode gives you answers you are satisfied with. there is no such thing as "quite clear" :)

pursue god, sister. you are young and there is a lot to be discovered

be greeted in christ

I'm no expert but the way I see it is, its a bit like a hard working father who comes home with only two sausages, he cooks the sausages and gives them to his son, his son wanting icecream throws the sausages to the dog. Is the father jealous of the son? No, but he is angry that the food that he knew the boy needed had been thrown to the dog.

And God Bless All His Peoples.

I think sometimes, like the good Father he is, God moves his people to use words we can understand.

The rebellious people in that day were worshipping multiple "gods". How does Almighty God convey his sovereignty, his holiness, his complete compassionate love for us? Don't have any "gods" before me. Why? Because I love you so desperately that I'm jealous for your love. (Not jealous OF your love, but FOR your love.)

When the NT prophets and visionaries describe Heaven, they use terms like "pearls" and "gold". Are there literally streets in Heaven made of a mineral desired here on Earth whose value goes up and down depending on its purity and the world market for gold? Why would God lower himself to that? But if the scribe who gave us this Word of God were to explain or describe it outside the bounds of what we can understand, it would be no use to our souls. Hence, gold is highly valued and can be purified and purified and more and more concentrated, and it's the closest thing the prophet could say to express what he saw.

Think about Ezekiel (OT) describing the cherubim, seraphim, some holy and angelic beings, as being "a wheel in the middle of a wheel" . There's been much made of that description, even among nonbelievers, who sometimes insist he was describing a UFO. In other words, we align the unknown with the known thing that seems most comparable. How else could a human describe that vision?

Over and over in Psalms and throughout other books of the OT, we are told, "The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. As far as the East is from the West, that's how far he has removed our transgressions from us." Does he stand us in one part of Earth and toss our sins to the exact middle of the planet on the other side? Perhaps. I think rather, however, he seeks to make us know the depth of his forgiveness, a remarkable quality of God's love.

There may be others more schooled than I who take issue with the words I've used or even what I'm saying. Based on what I've been taught, and read, and intuited from prayer and meditation, this is what I believe. I hope it helps you, on any level. God bless you. Your sister in Christ, ConstanceB
