Thank-you, for the link. Did 31,000 people really leave The UMC???? I know when they do these " head counts" they can over report etc. So maybe the UMC is being more honest about their numbers????
I hope so. I'm conservative and have been a Methodist for over 20 years. I taught an adult Sunday School class for several years and a number of the participants were definitely in the Democratic camp. Didn't cause any problems.-- in fact, we had a great time.
I am, however, what George Will described as a compassionate conservative.
I guess you could say that I am a conservative with moderate leanings, but I refuse to follow any particular political party. I think they all go off the deep end on certain subjects.
I have a problem with the label "conservative." "Conservative" in what? Politically conservative? Theologically conservative? Socially conservative? Economically conservative? When you ask about conservative, do you mean that for someone to be conservative one must be conservative in all of those areas and others?
I am a member of the UMC. I am shockingly conservative on some issues and probably shockingly less than conservative in other areas (I refuse to use the term "liberal" because it is a perfectly good and useful term that has been highjacked from academia and misapplied to politics and religion).
Now we need to be more specific if we are going to label. Who wants to go first?
I answered "mostly conservative" thinking the question was asking about social issues.
I understand, but I can relate to your post, because I can't call myself a hardcore conservative.
Now we need to be more specific if we are going to label. Who wants to go first?
I can name people Far right, Ann Coultier, Rush Limbaugh. Far Left Bill Maur (sp) the host of politically incorrect. Patricia Ireland director of N.O.W.
I checked your profile ...dunno where you live? I'm smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt and am definitely not as socially conservative as many of my neighbors. Most of the rest of the world would label me very conservative, though.
