  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where did I put my Dogma Stamp that they issue ya when ya become a Protestant?
Anybody seen what I did with that?
Shhhh! Don't say "become a protestant". We were around before the Pope was a twinkle in the Lord's eyes. :)

A tradition by any other tradition that is untraditional becomes that tradition, that then becomes traditional until that tradition becomes untraditional.
Traditionally speaking, of course. :)

Greetings. I see the peter and pope threads are being discussed ad-nauseam again so I would like to make a simple poll for ALL denominations to answer. I am not talking about if he was simply a Bishop of Rome and only for that city but a Grand Pope of all Christianity.

So this poll is quite simple "CAN CHRISTIANITY SURVIVE TODAY WITHOUT THE POPE/PAPACY OF ROME"
Yes.

Many of us "rebellious" charismatic protestants have done quite well without him for quite some time, thank you. ;)

Just found this thread - what about the alternative question:

Can the Pope survive without Christianity (think about it!)?

Personally I find this question of Christianity surviving without the Pope as very silly. The reason is that Jesus established the church and He is the cornerstone and He has promised it will stand for all time and against Hell. My Faith tells me that God is almighty and nothing can change what He has made. So this means that the Pope and the Catholic Church are going to be here until Jesus comes down from Heaven.

But we can all imagine the impossible happening... ;)

Yes, just as the Catholic Church can survive without a Bible, because both the Papacy and the Church were established by Christ, and they will remain indefectable until Christ returns

Given that Yeshua IS the Word of G_d, there might just be a few problems with your answer, K!!

At what point in the Bible that you can do without, did Yeshua install the first man to the office of Pope? I do not recall it in the Bible but then it appears from what you say that you can cope quite adeqately without the Word of G_d so I guess it's just another very convenient arrangement with El Shaddai, that you guys have.

Sure, if you think that believing false doctrines is doing "quite well", then you're doing great. :)

God did choose Peter as the first Pope.

"Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father."

Actually, that fits perfectly with my answer, because the Word of God is not limited to a book, the Word LIVES, in the second person of the Trinity, the Son of God

JC - in that case, Judaism and Y'isra'el will last even longer (in spite of what many say today, particularly in the Catholic Church) since El Shaddai brought them into being a long, long time before there was ever a Pope. It's good, though, to see that Catholicism, in its gracious acknowledgement of that fact, in some parts of its setup, has borrowed the yarmulke - there's hope for the world, yet! :)

A Rabbi as Pope - now there's a thought :D

I do not think Judaism can ever disapear. But then I see Christianity as the fullness of Judaism with Jesus as the Messiah prophecied.

I am also very priviledged to have in my heritage some Jewish ancestry.

I do not recall Yeshua saying to Kefa, "You are to be the first Pope". I do recall him saying he would build his Church on the rock (though the use of the words, 'Church' and 'Rock' in the context of your argument are uncertain, at best). I certainly do not recall him telling Peter to spend millions on buildings and fancy clothing...nor to rule the world with an iron fist etc etc.

Are you saying, as most Catholics do (and others, too), that the Church is Y'isra'el, that in G_d's plan there is no longer a Y'isra'el?

The Bible, in it's original language(s) is the full self revelation of G_d, according to the majority of Christendom, except the Catholic Church, eh? Does your Bible end at Revelation 21 by any chance?

Israel can now include gentiles as well. There is a prophecy that this fulfills from the Old Testament or Septuagent.
